OT-Grandaughter hurt

Late yesterday evening she was outside playing with friends when a boy throw a rock and it hit her right over her left eye. Blood was pouring, she was screaming and my daughter her mother was about hysterical! She's 8 and she of course saw all the blood running down into her eyes and she was hysterical! Every one knows how head injuries bleed so you can imagine the scene when paramedics arrived.

They got it cleaned up and it was small cut so EMS said they didnt need to transport.

I brought her home with me since my oldest daughter like all my girls went into some type of medical program she is medical coding and not patient care!!

I cleaned it up, put a couple of steri-strips on it and a bandaid and just watched her. She had 80mgs tylenol, lowest dose for her headache and went to sleep at 10. I woke her OK at midnight, again at 2 and she got up to go to bathroom at 3 and started vomiting! I called my daughter and she's in the ER waiting for the CT scan to be done.

Scared 10 years off my life and these days I'm a bit short on them.

Im praying just the scare and hysteria and adrenaline rush from it all just caused her to be sick. Every thing looked fine, pupils reactive and equal, she didnt feel too dizzy she said!

Prayers and thoughts while we wait. I just keep thinking I should have went with them but those hospital chairs for who knew how long would have put me down today all day so I thought I would wait as she may need me to care for her today since she wont be going to school or if they have to admit her.

My little brother a few years back had the same thing happen to him(at a friends...someone hit him while playing, cut his head, massive amounts of blood).

I'm sure it'll all be fine, but safe to make sure like ya'll did! :)

Thinking of her - and you and her mum. Hope she makes a quick recovery.

Thinking of you all. I'm sure she'll be fine, kids are so resilient. I'm sure the vomiting was due to shock rather than anything else. Sounds like you were doing all the right things. Shell be bouncing around in no time.

Prayers for everyone.. rest the best you can for when you are needed - you did not get enough sleep either !! . we grandparents care a lot & DO a lot

She slept most of the day from the nausea meds and awoke hungry and ready to play! She ate and she's been fine. Back to a normal 8 year old.

Mom picked her up a bit ago and I'm taking a break now.

As for the nausea and vomiting the Dr felt it was more related to the adrenaline rush from the scare and when she calmed down the shock caused her to be sick. He said pretty common.

Not common for me when its one of mine. Lol Could have never worked pediatrics! Thank goodness there are those who can.

Whew! so sorry that she was hit with a rock and had such an upsetting experience. Very, very happy that she's fine today. I'm sure you were thrilled to death when she wanted food. I'm going to bet they gave her Zofran, it's an anti nausea medication that used to be used for cancer folks only. It's now a common med to use. It's the only one I can take. It doesn't cause drowsiness like phengren does.

I'm so glad she's well, kids bounce back real quick. I'm sure you've probably not recovered yet but you'll feel better tomorrow I'm sure. Get some rest, if you're at all like I was, I'd sit in a chair and just watch my daughter sleep when she was sick LOL.

Thank you all so much. I checked this morning and she's wanting Mom to put a bigger bandage on her head before she goes to School! Lol. It's about 2cm and I put 3 steri-strips on it so a small bandaid does the job fine.

I guess she's now going to play it for all its worth and the bigger the bandage the bigger the value!! Kids you gotta love their thinking.

It matters not how many emergencies you've responded to without even thinking, your right when its one of your own you forget momentarily every thing you know!

When my now 15 yr was 9 her and her friend were running around the breezeway chasing each other, her friend ran into the laundry at the apt and the top half of the door was like 9 panes of glass. Well as she ran in my daughter started in behind her and the little friend held the door shut, Markala's hand went straight through the glass cutting artery, tendon all the way to the bone. My older kids heard her screaming and I ran for the front door and just as I opened it she fell into my entryway! Blood was massive, every beat of her little heart sent more on her, me, the wall! .

I was just standing there, dumfounded I guess, frozen with terror? Then I heard my BF screaming "do something "!! I guess then my training took over and I grabbed her up the the arm and held on for dear life! 911 had already been called and I could hear the sirens.

The EMTs got there and took over and I started shaking uncontrollable and then got sick, vomiting. I've been in codes, stopped at accidents, been in the OR and never have I gotten that freaked, sick, weak, you name it I was pathetic!

Finally pulled myself together enough to get to the trauma center and took me hours to be normal again.

That was a nightmare for a Mother and I will always be a Mom first I guess.

I'm soo sorry to read about what happened to your granddaughter. However, I'm glad to read that she's okay and doing better. I hope she continues to feel better.

Sorry about what happened to your daughter some years back. When these accidents happens, most of the time, the first emotion that probably hits us is shock hence our reactions.
I'm glad you were able to be strong for your daughter when this happened.
