Agreed, Fentanyl works wonders for me, they are my main PM. But they are very expensive. I ended up with an unexpected gap this year (was suppose to be taken care of by AARP Supplemental Insurance last year), so I got an unpleasant surprise recently. The last two times I picked up my Fentanyl 100 patches, my cost was $360 instead of my normal $47, which represents 50% of what Medicare was paying, meaning the true cost was $720 a month. Now I switch every 48 hours, so that is a script
of 15 patches per month. When I was switching every 72 hours in the beginning, my doctor noticed a pattern that I was having severe pain problems every third day. While Fentanyl works well (for me), it would not be a good choice for someone without insurance.
That was one reason why I had talked to my oncologist about
Methadone recently, as I understand it is very inexpensive in comparison to Fentanyl.
Hope you find an affordable solution, got to be hard without insurance, but I understand how expensive Cobra can be when one is unemployed.
