My daughter from Texas just called hysterical, her FIL just collapsed getting ready for church, appears to be a stroke, left sided. He's still in ambulance as they're working on him.
This is one of the greatest men I've had the pleasure to ever meet. He's actually one of two Medical Research Scientists with a cross degree in Engineering currently on a grant for some type of Neurotransmitter for spinal cord injuries. His wife is a pharmaceutical research scientist and they have a 24 yr old autistic son still at home.
They're saying he is awake, but recognized none of them and seems paralysis is effecting right side so he's got left side brain involvement, not the best situation.
She said ambulance just left.
I know the power of prayers from HW folks and he sure could use that now.

Thanks you 2!! Knew I could count on you guys!
They said he seemed fine before, went to bed earlier last night, had headache! Now we know that could have been an indicator but how often do we go to ER for a H/A. I've done what he did and went to bed!

Exactly! How many times have we gone to bed with, or even because of a headache, and not given it another thought!?
I do hope he's alright....

Thank you Loretta, glad to see you seem to be doing good. It helps when you cant get your meds! Lol
My daughter (Neosha) by the way just called to say he reached out and touched his grandbaby but not sure if it was recognition but I'm going to say probably, she's his only grandchild and the light in his eye.
The meds haven't broken the clot so they're readying him and waiting for life flight to a bigger hospital in Dallas. The Neuro teams been called, they're going after the clot. She said they dont have much choice as its small and if its not lodged good it could move and cause more problems.
Thanks to you all and hopefully with the prayers and grace of God spinal folks wont lose a soldier today.

UPDATE: He was in surgery when they got to Dallas and after about
30 minutes in the Dr came out and said they got one clot with no problem but the 2nd one effecting speech they could not get today without great risk to his life, they asked his family did they want them to try or put a medication directly into the clot and give it 30 minutes to see if it works? They said try the meds and so now they're waiting!
The Dr will be back when times up to see where they want to go from there.
Im trying to talk to my daughter and advise from here as she's asking a million questions, she knows after all my years on Ortho/Neuro that I have the answers but I'm not giving them to her.
I see no reason to worry them more and I'm being fed info 2nd hand, having pieces but no big picture without seeing his chart an scan reports.
She's getting frustrated with Me.
Hopefully I'm doing the right thing by not feeding her some of those answers. Im always going to be a Mom first!

Vickie
My personal, humble opinion is that you are doing the right thing... Being a Mom first. Nothing good can come from relaying information that, as you mentioned, may or may not be applicable.
She doesn't need the added stress and worry. I think you're being an awesome Mom by being there, supporting, not directing. That's Family.
God bless you, all of you. I really hope things turn out well.

Fingers crossed the medication did it's job! It sounds like he got prompt medical attention and I know that's really critical with stroke patients. My aunt suffered a stroke very young (early 40's) and they were able to get her treatment in time. It took a while but she's regained about
85% of "herself" back.
Sending healing thoughts and prayers!
