Hi! My name is Michele. I'm usually on the depression forum but thought I would post this question here.
Has anyone had any experience with the med Talwin? My doc, not pm, prescribed this for my back pain. I know we all have different side effects but did anyone have any?
Thanks for the info. Hope everyone has a relatively pain free weekend.

I took it many yrs ago. I didn't even know I had taken anything. In other words I didn't have any side effects, but it also didn't touch the pain.

Hi Michelle and welcome to cp.
Talwins a very old drug and one of the first abused opiates. Its a scheduled IV I believe unless that's changed.
It now contains naloxone which is a opiate antagonist, you cannot take any other opiates while on it. It will make you very sick and you cannot get a "euphoric " feeling" from it.
What concerns me most is since your from the depression forum I'm assuming you may be on meds that also are contraindicated with the Nal.
I would make sure I let all prescribing Drs know your taking it and check interaction with all meds at drugdigest.. Many of the SSRs and SSIs dont do well with this med.
Good luck!

you may want to read the Information for Patients on page 9 at the link below. The info is from the FDA website.

Thank you all so much!
Yes my doctor knows of all the medicines I am currently taking as well as my pharmacists- neither said anything. I didn't realize that it was an old drug.
It's not doing much for me either..... I'm going back in two weeks so I am sure he will try something else.
Thanks again!

I took it many, many moons ago, back in the 90's. For me it made me sweat a lot and feel hot.
It did work, however, at that time, for what was going on then.

Yes it's a very old drug and it did nothing for when me pain wise when prescribed heck 15 years ago. But yes it's an opiod antagonist so if you take narcotics it could cause an issue.
