So last night my hubby thought that putting some Volteran gel on my back would help, as soon as he came to the spot where the nerve that flaired from the spinal tap (Aug 29) He sent me into a tail spin and this nerve is flairing really bad, I'm having a hard time with this one spot on my back. I did tell the doc doing the spinal tap it hurt and still nothing was done,The doctor should've stopped to numb this nerve! so, between that and the nightmare (Doctor left me alone on the xray table for 5 minutes+ so the vials could be labeled, I was left alone on a table with the tube still high up in my back and my foot moved) Not sleeping good...really tired,memory is bad I couldn't remember where I put the mail key as I did manage to get the mail yesterday. I have an outline for a letter of complaint, I did call the hospital only to be told they do not handle compliants what a nerve they have!
I'm leaning over the key board typing because the nerve is flaired...I see my PM Doc next week and can't wait...
i do read the threads from time to time on here, so very sorry so many on here have stopped posting, will miss y'all...anyways I just hope I can make it through to next week...
I think of you David/Purgatory and Barbara with many prayers.
I cannot take Lyrica (bad reaction) for this nerve pain and hope the doctor can find me another medicine to help...

Thank you, Chart, for your kindness. Was just reading the update on "Lupus" about Barb's op today.

So sorry to hear of your latest. I had a very bungled spinal tap years ago, and I still vow to never undergo another one the rest of my life. It was the worse pain I ever personally experienced, and still have ill feelings about this many years later. You should have never been left alone like that, anything could have happened.

Hope you mend up from that, and can put that bad experience out of your mind.

The hospital should have a patient advocate that you can speak to about what happened. Worth a try. If that doesn't help, you can send your letter to the agencies in your state that oversee hospitals and doctors. That might get their attention. Please don't give up on that complaint.

Sorry that you are having such a bad time of it right now.

There should be an ombudsman you can contact. They will have your interest at heart, vs trying to protect the facility.

Yikes!

I admit I have a serious fear of spinal taps, and if I ever need one I'd better be *way* out of it or I'll be putting up a serious fight! I hope you heal quickly and that you find a way to lodge a complaint. Very brave to have a tap in the first place!

I'm sorry that the nerve is still hurting you. I hope and pray that you get relief very soon.

I have to say that I wouldn't want to have a spinal tap or any other needle stuck in my spine.

You can also complain to your insurance people.

I just got over bad reactions to Lyrica, tried Effexor with the same effects - severe weakness, worse pain and more. Lyrica knocked me out, so I got some sleep. Effexor gave bad insomnia.

Getting off NORCO helps a little with my nerve pain, but I need something for other types of pain.

pcp put me on an antibotic (cefzil) and I did okay, bruises had gone, but last night my hubby looked at my back and the bruises from the spinal tap have come back and I've had mouth sores that got better with the antibotic. Feeling so tired since all this began I've not had my monthly cycle at all, almost two months and no peroid...
I see my RA doctor on the 17th, the eye doctor before that to check the macular degeneration and pm tomorrow...what is up with these bruises, one is on the back of my left hand were an IV was, I could swear that had healed and they hurt as well...I did restart mtx at a low .3 injection on Monday no bruise at the injection site...
Had a freaky bad nightmare on Sunday scared me pretty bad..
So Pm tomorrow, neck mri on the 10th of October, eye doctor then RA doctor in same week and then the neuro which ends my Doctors appointments for the month...some one get me outta this, please...
**I did win some Texas RenFest tickets and just hope and got my fingers crossed that I'll be up to going, we got a hotel room booked, this will be the first fun thing I've got planned since the spinal tap and really could use a break....

Sorry to hear of your roller coaster ride. I know it's frustrating when things feel like they just might be getting better when *blam* -- surprise -- another doozy.

I have a question about your bruises. Do you notice that you bruise in the same places repeatedly? As in, where the tap was done, where the IV's were put in,...that they heal and then randomly they reappear in the same place even though you haven't wacked yourself or had anything done in that same spot?

Gentle ((((((hugs)))))) I'm so sorry that you're not doing well sweetie. Things just haven't been going your way. It kinda sounds like you're having a RA flare up with the mouth sores. My guess would be that the spinal tap and all that went on with it, has pushed you into a flare up.

It sounds like you've got a ton of appointments, and I hate that you're not getting any answers at all. It's just not fair is it? I know you've got to be super excited about winning the Texas RenFest tickets. I'll make sure to send many prayers and as much positive healing energy your way so that you can attend and have a wonderful time.

I know you mentioned that Jazzie will graduate in December, wow the time flew by. I know Nikita should be done in spring of 2015. Hoping I don't miss this coming graduation, she'll disown me if I do, I think. Tell Jazzie I said congrats and I'll be praying that you feel well for the graduation and all the stuff you plan to do around that time.

I know it's all frustrating, but hang in the Chart. I'm pulling for you and we've known each other a long time now and you know I care and am always here if you need me. Im sorry to hear that Char. Even astounded a hospital doesn't directly accept complaints. So I urge you to go to the JCAHO website and find out how to file a report. They will, the hospital, get the complaint this way and it will get their attention. If its one thing hospitals dont want is a investigation from them. This evaluation and accreditation determines the amount of money they get from the federal budget to meet the costs for treating indigent folks and meeting the Medicare /Medicaid deficit.


All hospitals that run as non-profit cannot operate a without this presidential accreditation.

The report will also be forwarded to the AMA if a particular Dr is involved.

Good luck and sure hope you get better.

Yes, the bruises are in the exact same spot, Just do not know why they'd return.

Barbara many thanks, I still say prayers for you and know you will see Nikita graduate. PM doc said nothing he can do for that flairing nerve and said it needs time to heal, hubby can't even touch that one spot yet otherwise I end up awake all night in severe pain, so putting on the special formulated topical from the doctor is going to be rough. Jazzi has a December 14th graduation date and we booked a hotel and that is a good drive from Houston, 301 miles. Will probably toss a pillow behind me on that trip. On top of that RA office called and they are not seeing eye to eye with what Neuro says so in November or December I might get another RA doctor, will wait and see what happens at my next RA appointment and my eye doctor and RA doctor do not always see eye to eye and its so frustrating....prayers and well wishes.

This must seem so very frustrating to you. But I have known you a very long time now and I know just how much tenacity you have and determination to win and get past all this unbelievable difficulty you have been dealing with!!!

You KNOW that I will pray for you very hard for successful treatment.

Another bad few days, pipes brust in closet, getting it cleaned up still damage to photo's the most irritating as memories are gone...colthes losts...
Today was MRI day appointment time was for 1:30p.m. I get there and they said it was scheduled for 2:15p.m. no biggie, got the valium as fear of those darned machines is horrid, then to find it's mri's of both neck and lower back with and without contrast, so the valium kicks in and then I get the long parts of the mri done, so then the time for the contrast and you could guess it but finding a nerve was finally done on the fourth try with lots of patting, (so need-less to say but I'll be bruised good tomorrow) got the contrast mri's done and then had to wait for hubby to come get me as he was running late. total time 1:20 p.m until 3:45 p.m. plus 15 minute wait for hubby so finally at 4 p.m we head home, but make a quick stop at Sonic for a Strawberry slushy which did helped my day. and my spinal tap bruises from August 29th are still apparent, not gone yet, but looking better.
Looking forward to next week and seeing what the eye doctor has to say after the eye pictures get done again, and hoping the macular degeneration is better (I can hope it)...
Sorry this was long, but i sure wish they could hit a vein on a first try without any bruising and at least i didn't feel the needle that finally got the vein, didn't feel it at all...guess because he patted me pretty hard. I hope the numbness isn't spreading...
Just had to vent and get it out, I know some of y'all on here have it harder than me and I pray you all get good days. going to go sleep off the valium now...

Sorry for such a long and bad day. I treated myself to a Sonic Chocolate Malt the other day when I wasn't feeling so good. It didn't really help, but it sure tasted good.

Hope you can get yourself some good sleep after all that.

So Char, you would think they would have the best phlebotomist in those areas where the needles have to be the biggest! Was always a pet peeve for me. Rule of thumb if I stuck you twice and missed both times I called a labor hall nurse! Those guys are use to hitting bloated, dehydrated, grouchy women in immense pain with a water hose size intracath.

Never bothered me to admit defeat yet some would continue til their poor patients looked like a junkie on payday!

Remember guys you always have the right to request someone else try. Dont allow one person to stick you anymore than 3xs. Tell them to get someone else.

Hopefully your getting some much needed healing sleep!

I'm sorry that you had a bad day. It sure was a long one for you (((hugs))). I just hate it when I have really bad, long days like the one you did. I'm sure you were totally wiped out.

Vickie is so right, NEVER, let them stick you more than 3 times. If they can't get it on the 1st try then ask for someone else. I'm a terrible stick, hence I've got a mediport, my mediport tho isn't a power port. So, if I need contrast for a CT or MRI, they have to get an IV in me. It's never a good thing, and some of the people trying to get the IV in let their ego's get in the way.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your photos and cloths. I'd be very upset over that too. You just can't replace those things. I lost all of our negatives from all of our photos. Hubby was VERY upset with me. Told me that we would be you know what if we had a fire and lost all our photos. (((hugs))) I know it doesn't take the pain away, but I'm sorry my friend.

When will you get the results from you MRI? I hope that the images can provide your doctor with the information they need to help you. I just hate it that you're having so much pain. Good luck with the eye doctor next week. I'm praying that things have improved with your eyes.

The slushy from Sonic sounds yummy, we don't have Sonic here where I live :(, I'd like to try one someday though. I hope you have a good weekend my friend. As always you're in my prayers, here's to you having a low pain weekend. I hope you get plenty of rest and feel better over the weekend.
