Lyrica--racing heartbeat, cold hand and feet

Just tried Lyrica, and my heart is racing, and my feet and hands are freezing. I'm also a bit nauseous. Not sure, but I feel like my eyelids are a bit puffy. Feeling awful though. Is this normal?

Hi flower,

You should read the patient hand-out given to you by the pharmacist. I know that facial swelling as well as hands/feet swelling is either a side effect of this medication or a notification to you that you are allergic to it. This is just off the top of my head from reading the patient insert years ago when I tried it.

Hopefully, other members from healing well will come along with some more input for you. If you no longer have the patient insert, just do a google search and you can find all the info you need here online.

Is this with just the first dose of Lyrica? After reading the patient info, maybe you should call your doctor and advise them of the situation before taking another dose. I wouldn't want you to suffer unnecessarily or cause yourself a more allergic reaction than needed.

Flower you can call & talk to the pharmacist. I would do this before taking anymore.....Susie

I agree, dont take anymore until you talk to someone and if the swelling gets worse get to the ER.

I've been on lyrica for awhile and had nothing like that even though I had some different problems early out that went away nothing like this!

Thank you so much. I just woke up. Wow. It knocked me out. My eyes are not any worse. I don't know if I'm allergic...I just got swollen eyelids--no other allergy symptoms. My vision is weird right now, and I feel short of breath, like I did while I was pregnant. I don't think I want to take this.

ETA---ugh this shortness of breath is AWFUL! Never taking this agin because I can't even walk around bc when I do, it's too difficult to breathe! Oh we'll:(

Im hoping for you that it wears off quickly and I dont think I would feel comfortable taking anything that effected my breathing like that.

The thing about this class of meds is it seems that while one will work fine without side effects the others wont. Most of us can take one or the other but all the rest will cause problems. It's finding the right one for you. I realize this is scary but dont let it scare you away from trying the others as when you get the correct one at the correct dose it can be a great deal of help.

Thanks, Vickie. I'm starting to feel better now (about 8 hours later). It was a bad feeling though. My dr. thinks I may have RSD (CPRS), so I have to get evaluated by another doctor for that, and I really was hopeful that the Lyrica would help my burning pain. Thanks for the encouragement about trying another medication. I do get very worried about trying new ones.

First of all, how many mgs. of Lyrica did you start out with. You may have started out on a higher dose than needed. 

It does have vision side effects, I remember.  I had them for about a week and sleepiness too.  But the difficulty breathing concerns me.  It sounds like quite an anaphylactic reaction you had.  Definitely do not take any more before speaking to the Dr. that prescribed it.  Sounds like Lyrica may not be for you.

Thanks, Linda. I didn't think it was anaphylactic, because I didn't feel swelling in my mouth or throat. I'm still not 100% better with my breathing. Next time that happens (hoping there's not a next time), I'll remember to use my inhaler. I'll let you know what the dr. says. I took 50 mg.

I took Lyrica at bedtime for 4 days before I was sure the vision problems, weakness and tiredness were so intolerable I had to quit. It took several days before the side effects wore off.

I was taking it in hopes it would lessen my burning pain too. It didn't, but it's supposed to take a couple of weeks to work.

Then I tried Effexor. Same side effects. So bad I only took it once. (I've had bad side effects from Cymbalta, gabapentin and a bunch of others.)

I sure hope someone comes up with something we can take.
