I have took the Butrans patch for a month and 1/2. The first month I was on 5mcg and told my PM that I couldn't tell any difference so she upped it to 10mcg. I have Norco 10/325 for breakthrough. I actually started researching this drug just to see if it was actually a placebo!!! lol... But I have read mostly good/great things about
it but I'm just as well without it.
I hate to keep telling her that its pointless but its just not effective for me... Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks for your time!!!

I started with the 10 mcg and had little to no relief. After being switched to the 20 mcg, it was the best pain relief I had for the three months that I was on it. Ultimately, I was taken off of it due to consistent early (5-6 days, not 7) lapse in pain control. Since this indicates the drug level is too low and since the 20 is as high as the patches go, I was switched by my pm doctor to another drug. Sigh.
As drugs go, it is different in its action and there is absolutely no opiate rush, you don't "feel" the drug work, the pain just disappears when it is working.

I tried it for 3 months. The Patches ran out on day 4 with me.There was no way 4 patches could last 28 days.
It was my PCP writing it with no BT meds so it didn't work out.

Thanks for the replies! Luie you make a good point about
the Fentanyl but I went from that to the Butrans. Fentanyl worked ok for my pain but it made it VERY difficult to urinate. Percocets make me constipated, morphine itches, oxycodone clouds me too much. Lortabs 10/325 are my BT but they don't really work that well for me anymore. I just don't understand how the Butrans is the miracle drug for so many and it has no effect on me?
I'll just tell my PM that I'm not having any luck with it. She was exited and happy for me too since I had no sides from it...

I used it to wean off methadone but it wasn't that great for pain relief!
If you do ok with the hydrocodone then maybe trying the newly release Zohydro would be beneficial. Its an extended relief hydrocodone minus the aceteminophen. Seems many Drs aren't aware of it yet but it was released by the FDA last month.
Good luck

I guess i'll just tell my PM that I'm still not getting relief from it and see what will be Rx next... its frustrating having going thru these trial without any benefits...

I'm with Luie. It's totally true, in my experience. And I tried for six months because we were trying really hard to be conservative. It basically made my BT meds non existent so I was left with just Butrans. It was awful. I am now on fent and while its not perfect, at least it doesn't block my BT.
Also, Butrans ruined my skin for a looong time. Super itchy horrible rashes that took weeks (and one rash, months) to heal.

@nvrthesame98: thank you for the alternative hydro info. I hadn't heard. I am on percs but I have always preferred hydro. I will look into that at my next appt. :)

ive found butran patches to be useless I was on 30 mg for nearly 5 months and after talking with my dr he decided to ween me off them during a period of weeks . I just went cold turkey and did not have one side effect coming off them . that tells me they weren't doing anything to start with .
witch was my suspicion to start with so the cycle continues to see what he wants to try next in the mean time im still in a world of pain .
cant get to see him till after xmas now :-(

Hey squid, I'm still on the butrans that I used for w/d from methadone but tomorrow will be discussing alternative meds to try since the butrans does virtually nothing for pain.
I won't however go back to methadone but will definitely not be staying on butrans!! It's been great for w/d symptoms but that's it!
Sorry you can't get in until after the holidays, can you ask them to call you if they have a cancellation or "no show "? Many Dr offices have a call list for that purpose!
