Loretta the link takes me to your medscape login page. You may want to change that. I did see the article as a medscape guest or atleast I think it was what your talking about
?

Well gosh Loretta that's really weird!! Evidently the last time you posted a medscape link you did so from your medscape account? When I clicked this link it took me to your login page as welcomed you back and asked for a password?? Yikes!
I finally found a small link that said "not momtofour" clicked on it and it went to medscapes homepage asking if I was signing in the Nurse's, Dr, or public pages? " My account with medscape is under Nursing so I had to search a bit to find the article and the format is always from a practicing professional view that makes it totally different then what the public see's and sometimes that's really annoying to me Lol.
Im going to log out and see if it will let me read the public published article but wanted to tell you about
the link and see if anyone else has that happen?

Litespeed -
No, that link just takes me to the log in page, too.
I think it may be that you need to register w/ Medscape to read the article.

I can access it through this link - but it may be because I'm signed in to my account.

Yeah, I couldn't see the article using any of the links posted so far. Each instance was just a log-in screen.

I had to sign outta Loretta's and into mine to read it.
That's really strange going to her login? Any idea why? Tina I even went out and Google's medscape and when it
opened the page? It was still Loretta 's login page?

Vickie,
Your computer has "captured" Loretta's log in page. The best thing to do - is go to the toolbar on the right of Google - and hit "Clear History" for the last day or so, including
cookies.
That should help.

This is all normal behavior generated by the fact that Medscape makes you pass security before reading the article, and you can't do that without a Medscape account.
If you find items on restricted (password protected) websites, it's always a good idea log out of the service & find a public link...otherwise none of us can successfully follow the link.

FWIW, I do not have a Medscape account and I was able to read the article. The way I found it was to use Google:
"Long acting opioids site:medscape.com"
Which provided the link I posted.

Litespeed,
I don't know... All I know is when you click the link you provided, it takes you to a login page. It might not do that for you - but that's what the rest of us see.

I did that Tina!! Thanks! She posted something awhile back on medscape I looked at and I guess that's what happened. In history I saw it so I cleared it back to there and then
opened medscape and it went to the "nurses " page where my login is.
Good point Lynnwood, I'm sure Loretta is like me, when I close the browser I forget it doesn't always log me out. Bad habit!

Yep, all the links provided so far take me to a password challenge page...I'm not a member of Medscape and don't care to be.
Loretta, how about
summing up the article of the main points?

so far, all of the "links" here, only take me to a log in page. there has to be some other way to link it live for anyone to use. I have read many articles on Medscape in the past, without either joining them or logging into.

Im actually joined in the Nurses part and I've always liked to read some articles on the public forum but like David it's not letting me do it. It just keeps giving me a sign in page on these links.

I'll summarize the article:
Basically it's talking about
the change on Extended Release meds to saying "for severe pain only".
The article says the FDA's New Labeling is a "Win-Win".
Quote: With the label changes, extended-release and long-acting opioids are indicated for the management of pain that is severe enough to require daily, around-the-clock, long-term opioid therapy and for which alternative treatments are inadequate.
Quote: This is a very, very important label change because it really emphasizes our role as clinicians in doing due diligence to the assessment process.
It's saying the new black box warning will talk about
using the meds w/ "aberrant behavior" - basically, not as prescribed.
It will include a mention of possible overdose and death. It will also mention neonatal abstinence syndrome - basically, if a woman gets pregnant and is using this med - baby has the possibility of having issues & going through withdrawal.
That's pretty much it!

I'm sorry. I didn't realize it would do that. I read so much more this time, that I thought it was so much more that hadn't been said before.
