MamaB085, please do post your story on an intro thread. We urge all members to make their own intro post so that all members will see it & be able to give you a proper hello & welcome aboard. I too have a pain pump. My first one was implanted back in 2005. Since then the battery of course died so the pump had to be replaced 11 months ago.

I think I might finally get some answers. I have an appointment tomorrow with a Pancreatic Surgeon. My biopsy results aren't back yet, but I am hoping that this surgeon can tell me more from the endoscopic ultrasound images.

Straydog, I'm sorry. I was just trying to show I too had pancreas issues. I apologize. How would I go about talking to you about the pain pump? (Sorry to post that question here. Still trying to learn the ropes here. I looked at the rules already.)

I seen a pancreatic surgeon yesterday. He said that right now there isn't enough information from testing to know exactly what is going on. He said he really needs to know if these tumors are functional or non-functional or if there are any tests indicating any malignancy. I still have to have blood tests and the octreotide scan. My gastroenterologist is wanting to do the biopsies again with a pathologist present to make sure they get the samples that they need. So I'm basically still playing the waiting game.

I think I'm in the right place and seeing a very good doctor. The place I am going to is called the Siteman Cancer Center, which I have heard of before and is pretty well known as one of the best places for any type of cancer in this area. I feel very good about going to this place.

Mark, did I miss something here, thought the gi took sample already? Are you saying the gi did not take enough for the biopsy?

From what I understand, the samples taken were of normal pancreatic cells and not of the tumor. The only thing the pathology report did find was some kind of atypical cells. I don't know what that means but I'm guessing they didn't get the exact tissue that they wanted to test.

So I called my primary doctor today to request my Vicodin be called in with the dosage increase and the nurse in his office said something about it having to be changed to something called norco because I guess the FDA is limiting acetaminophen in prescriptions. When I seen him in the office last month he said he could increase my dosage to 7.5mg. Is this norco made in 7.5mg? I really don't know what it is so I was just wondering if it is the same thing or what might be different from the 5/500mg I was taking.

Mark, Norco is pretty much the same has Vicodin. Back when I was on it, I preferred Norco over Vicodin. You can go to www.Drugs.com and look this up.

Thanks! I think I prefer the Norco over the Vicodin as well. The 5/500mg Vicodin would make me just a little drowsy sometimes. This Norco (5/325mg) seems to do the opposite and give me a little energy instead. It seems strange, but that is what I am experiencing so far since starting the Norco. There doesn't seem to be any difference in the pain relief though, which is what I expected. My doctor prescribed up to 5 tablets per day instead of the 3 tablets per day I was taking before. I think the increased frequency of the dose will help a lot though. These definitely do not work for 8 hours. Every 4-6 hours helps me keep ahead of the pain instead of having at least 2 hours of no relief until the next dose. I think the main reason that I prefer these is not the change in the pill itself, but the increase in frequency that I am prescribed now.

I have to prep tonight for my Octreotide scan that is on Monday and Tuesday. I actually have to do a prep tonight and tomorrow night separately. Then on Thursday I have to go in for another endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for more biopsies to be taken.

My pathology reports came back finally. There was one marker that was positive that is usually positive with a few different types of cancer. The pathologist wants more biopsies taken with him present. I seen the pancreatic surgeon and I am seeing both a GI that specializes in Crohn's and an oncologist at the beginning of next month. Basically, they still need to do more testing to know exactly what is going on before they can treat it. Right now my symptoms are still being treated.
