I have had this for years and it is almost relentless. I have been told surgery isn't a good option because I have such a history of scar tissue and bone spur growth on other bones that came back after being removed that anything tried for the bone spurs would probably just result in regrowth. I have had serious issues with scar tissue and adhesions repeatedly after other surgeries so I can see why the doctor feels that way.
My understanding of the phenol facet injections is that yes, it is chemical ablation, it strips the myelin sheath off of the nerves, and yes it does regenerate in a number of months, as all ablation does. I haven't had the heat because frankly, he preforms RF thermal/heat ablations because, ya gotta be awake and in that, it scares me to death. I have had so many surgeries, beyond work related I don't want to lay there while they burn nerves. So the use of phenol was a compromise and it doesn't really bother me. I read up on it and feel it is safe, he is qualified. I wish he would use more lol!
The majority of my pain, I feel, is from muscles that NEVER release. It is a terrible way to live.
