Overheated patch?

I've had the flu since Thursday and I've been running a fever around 101.7 when it spikes. We were laying and watching my son play video games and all of a sudden I got extremely tires. I couldn't even keep my eyes open . Then I fell asleep and when I woke up Iwas informed that I'd slept the entire day. I also realized that when I was sitting on my son's beanbag that I was sort of close to the heater.  Could this have been a med dump, either from the fever or the heater? I've never felt anything like that before in my life. Should I maybe try to be patchless while I'm sick?

I would think you slept due to illness. When I've been inpatient with sepsis, I still wore my patch. I was running 103-104. But maybe-I don't know. Not much help, am I?

I tend to get high fevers and I wear the patch until it hits 103. My doc also said it is OK to wear until your fever is 103. I will just take it off until it goes down a bit. I agree with roccy in that it probably was you being sick. Normally if you get too much fent, you will feel dizzy, nauseous and just not right. I hope you are feeling better.

Any concerns and I'd call your doc!

I agree. Most likely the reason you slept so long is due to being ill.

Hey Linds,

How are you feeling now? Are you still feeling sleepy, and are you still running a temp?

I had to grin (in a good way, mind you, promise!)....because I haven't been feeling well since (wait for it..........) Thursday. I've also been running a temp, and for the past 2 days I've been sleeping all day. Not much at night, but definitely through the day.

In fact, I was just plunked down in front of the TV and fell asleep and just woke up at 4pm! I'm exhausted!

So see? The "grin" was because we shared the "sleepies" at the same time! You know I love ya!

LoL, love ya too! We are cyber sisters, Merrida! I feel much better today... And I only felt like that on Friday when the patch was too close to the heater. Otherwise I was sleepy but not nodding off while sitting straight in a chair.

I hope you start to feel better soon. We ended up in urgent care and my daughter tested positive for the flu but I did not... They said I was most likely at the end of it. We actually ventured out to the grocery store today so we are doing much better.

Hi Linds,

So glad you are feeling better, it's no fun adding yucky on top of pain and what else we deal with.

I overheat on a regular basis due to Addisons and no longer having my adrenal gland, I've been on 125 or higher fentanyl patches for 8 years and I med dump a lot according to my doc and pharmacist. My body is actually use to day 3 typically being without meds and I just sleep a very deep sleep.

When I first went on the patch I was used to sleeping with a heating pad when I had a sick migraine. No one warned me not to so first migraine hit and I grabbed my trusty heating pad, 3 pillows, thick comforter and made my protective cocoon.

My husband was finally able to wake me after about 18 hours. I was talking out of my head, acting like I was drunk and couldn't stand up. A trip to ER, blood tests confirmed I.had 3 days worth of fentanyl in my system.

My heating pad shuts off after an hour, don't know how much I may have turned it back on but it couldn't have been much in the last 12 hours of so.

I have med dumped from being in the sun to long, sitting with my back. (and my patches) against the heater, camp fire, running a fever and as I said from overheating from my Addison Disease.

That being said I am not typical, my husband and doctor like to tease that if anyone is going to have a reaction or side effects it will be me :-) I just wanted you to know it can happen but my understanding it doesn't happen a lot with "normal" people.
