Lortab no longer going to be made?

Hello and welcome, Enigma

My oncologist made me make the switch from Lortab 10/500 to Norco 10/325 in early December. I have had no problems with the switch. For the first few days, I thought the Norco felt stronger, but I think it was my body adjusting to a slightly different med. Since then, I have had no problems with the Norco.

For me, it's easily equal to the pain relief from the Lortabs, and I was on them for over 3 1/2 years at the time. And my drug store, has no issues or problems filling my scripts.

Since my Fentanyl script has to be a new written script each time, its no big deal for me to have to have the Norco class meds written each time. My doctor mails me them in plenty of time before I run out. On rare occasion, I have to make the trip to his office to pick up one, but no big deal either.

Hi Enigma & welcome to the chronic pain forum. I think I would plan on Norco being my script next month too. I don't think you will be lucky enough to find any more of the others.

If you would please start your own intro thread so that all members here will see it & be able to give you a proper hello & welcome aboard. By posting on this thread not many people will see it.

The FDA ordered manufacturers to reduce the amount of tylenol to no more than 325 mgs effective Jan 14, 2014. They still make Lortab and other hydrocodone combinations meds and they will continue to, just the amount of tylenol has changed. So if a rx is written for 500 tylenol, it can't be filled. It needs to be changed to 325 tylenol. FDA has told pharmacists they are to call the dr that wrote the rx if it is for more than 325 mg tylenol.

FYI :: Its not only Lortab products its any medication containing tylenol over the 500mgs . We just see more people on Lortab is why this discussions based on the Lortab . They're many cough and cold meds ,prescription and OTC that will also be reformulated to lower the mgs of tylenol . A few other mds such as Ultracet should have already been changed. Fioricet as well since about a year or more ago the FDA asked for a voluntary change from the manufacturers when they applied the black box warning.

Meds such as Nyquil , Tylenol cold &flu , Thera-flu , the list is long and it may take some time before all the changes happen to all the meds . If the FDA enforces all med changes to occur prior to a deadline the manufacturers may not be able to keep up with supply demands and leave the drugstore shelves empty of some of your favorite coldand sinus meds .

I've never been able to take Lortab. People used to say you have to eat when you take them, but even when I ate, it would upset my stomach, gave me nightmares when I COULD sleep on them, and gave me a very hyper feeling where I couldn't really rest well. I would much rather the other pain pills I was taking that they discontinued (Mepergan Fortis) that worked! I never had any adverse side effects from them, they went straight to the pain, and I slept very well!

I'd been using Lortab 7.5/500 for about 10 years for migraines. I hate the new government interference into health care under the guise of trying to prevent liver disease/addiction.

I have found that the Norco the pharmacy gave me doesn't work as well as the Lortab did. My doctor thinks it's due to the differences in the amount of the Tylenol, as the generic for Lortab never worked for me, and it has less Tylenol in it as well.

Has anyone else used it for migraines, and if so do you have any suggestions on things I can try (not migraine med related)? The migraine meds make me feel crazy.

The amount of tylenol was reduced to 325 mgs in prescription medications in January 2014. If it is just the reduction in tylenol, have you tried taking 1 regular strength tylenol when you take the Norco ? You can still get the Lortab, but the tylenol is reduced to 325 mg.
