Tramadol

Hello.That seems like a crazy switch.

Tramadol is Non-Narcotic.

An anti-inflammatory I believe.

Hopefully someone can shead some light on it for you.

I've taken Tramadol in the past and had very good results with it. However, I have been on and off Prozac (mostly on) for decades. It wasn't until I had my first hip replacement that the doc at rehab told me about the conflict of taking Tramadol while on Prozac.

Prior to that conversations, I found my providers assertively prescribing Tramadol for me, and none of them either told me about the potential risk/interaction, and when I had my other hip replaced in June, my ortho wanted to prescribe Tramadol. I told him what was explained to me, given my meds, and he told me he wasn't aware of that. (?!)

That was scary. Perhaps he's become better informed since then. I hope so.

I would be cautious if you are on A/D's that could potentiate serotonin syndrome. It's a dangerous condition to find yourself with.

All I know about serotonin syndrome is that it is serious and can come on quickly. The best thing I have found, besides asking your doctor, is to ask your pharmacist.

They can explain it to you and might even be able to give you some warning signs to look out for.

As far as tramadol, I cannot personally take it because I have seizures, but have heard mixed responses.

Before you worry, they have been mostly good. I do hear that a lot of people report a feeling of well being, which is probably the chemical reaction in your brain that interferes with antidepressants.

That being said, I am no doctor.......good luck and call your pharmacist.

I take tramadol (not capitalized because it's generic name) and have had serotonin syndrome a few times because I'm very sensitive to serotonin. Knowing the symptoms is the key because a lot of people have no trouble at all with drugs that can "react with" tramadol. Tramadol increases serotonin and some people call it their "happy pill."

I turn beet red and sweat like crazy when I take Flexeril the same day as tramadol. It comes on within an hour. Fortunately there's a treatment! I read that benzodiazepines can stop the reaction. The first time I got the syndrome I called my PCP and told him what was going on and he said to take one of the Valium I have for muscle cramps. It worked within an hour and I was fine. But if you get this GO TO AN ER unless you talk with your doctor and have the "antidote" (not quite the right term) with you.

Tramadol is nice for pain, hits the same receptors as opioid in addition to raising serotonin which helps a little with pain too. Best part is it's not highly regulated.

I look up all my pain prescriptions to see if they work by raising serotonin, and most of them do! Cymbalta and many antidepressants work by raising serotonin. Lyrica works differently.

Most pharmacists and doctors are not particularly knowledgeable about serotonin syndrome, and I've never been warned about possible interaction with tramadol when I get a new prescription. Caveat emptor!

Hello, I take tridural (long acting tramadol) 200mg in the morning, 225mg of effexor in the morning, and take 50-100mg of tramadol as my breakthrough medication.

My GP warned me to watch for the symptoms of Serotonin Syndrome. In the 2 years I've been on both I haven't had a symptom. I see my GP on a monthly basis to make sure I don't have any issues.

I will be going back on my tramadol today and I do not like the nucynta. It gives me a hyper feeling and does not really control my pain any better than tramadol but with more side affects.

Do you know if I can take a norco in place of my tramadol before bed if I am having a lot of pain? I cannot seem to get an answer about this. I have been on tramadol 300 mg. for 8 years. I do not take any other meds except advil and tylenol.

P. S. I am seeing that pharmacists are really afraid to answer a lot of questions, and the new p.m. doctor seems sort of strange.
