Negative urine test

So for the second time my urine has come back negative for narcotics eventhough I was taking them. So now I have to go in today just to drop off a urine sample. All I've been on is the patch this time. So we will see what happens. But I have a uti so idk if I can even produce enough urine for the sample.

I'm afraid with all the weird results he will drop me. I did mention to the nurse on the phone about my gastric bypass and she made a note of it and said I could mention it to the dr when I come in later.

You need to get with the dr that did your gastric bypass surgery & tell him what is going on with the UA's. He can either call your PM dr or send him a letter about absorption issues after this type of surgery. This has happened to others. I sure hope you can get this taken care of, its just too hard finding PM drs in todays environment.

Susie's suggestion is a great one. If for any reason the dr that did the surgery won't call or write a letter, you need to al least get your medical records from that dr and give them to your PM dr. Al least that way the PM dr will have proof that the surgery was done. You may be able to find creditable medical references online to take with to your PM dr where it states that this can be a problem when this surgery has been done.

I had two negative urine tests. Then they did a blood test which turned out positive. I think it still affected that doctors thinking on me.

It's a shame that we and others can have so much riding on tests that have been shown to be inaccurate.

You're lucky that the dr did the blood test. There are a lot of drs who wouldn't have gone that far. It is sad that we have to live with these rules.

It would seem he could see the Patch on you and count that.

Just fyi,some of the meds used as urinary analgesics lower the blood levels of some opiates requiring an increase in medication to achieve your normal pain control and altering urine and blood serum levels. Always investigate how other meds react and interact with our pain meds. Drugdigest has an extensive interaction feature. I know the pharmacy insert is tedious and full of over the head info but it's still the best source of facts. Ask your RPH for the insert on any new meds you start and OTC meds usually have the insert in the box.

UTI meds off the top of my head made easy are UriStat, pyridium, the drugs that drastically change the color of urine is a rule of thumb.

I don't know if a gastric bypass would affect the absorption of meds if you're using a patch, as the meds get into the bloodstream via the skin, not the GI tract. I do know that urine drug screens have a pretty high margin of error because it happened to me under very strange circumstances. It also makes sense that if you've been having UTIs and are taking meds as Vickie stated, urine samples would be negatively affected. If this next sample comes up odd, I would most definitely bring up the UTIs. I would also think that if they see you have the patch on, it would be apparent that you're using your meds.

That urine sample came up negative as well. Due to that fact he can't prescribe me anymore. He was going to ween me off of the patches anyway. But he just dropped me from 20mcg to 5mcg and only gave me a rx for 1 patch. Along with a rx for clonidine incase of withdrawal. But he also can't prescribe me any other narcotics. He said he could loose his liscense because the tests all came out negative.

that's not true. if he is under scrutiny now maybe but they discretion to do what is medically right within bounds of legitimate medical practice in your state. lots of people metabolize opioids fast maybe because liver enzyme CYP-450 is over active with you. i think that is primary buprenorphine liver enzyme in play. plus with that and/or the fact i think it's very low dose. never have patch so i am ignorant of some of it's pharmacodynamics. i have used sublingual Buprenex for pain not detox but i also used it to detox after fusion in 2008. for pain i was titrated to 2 under tougne in morning and 1 afternoon and 1 at bedtime. 32mg, the ceiling dose or max thats all it will do. 32mg/24hrs had me stoned out of my gourd and had to stop. 20mcg/hr for 7 days, w/o practical knowledge of patch i am guessing, i can't imagine .02mg or 20mcg," i think is right amount of decimal moves", i do know how that could approach the sublingual 32mg. i might be very wrong but that dose seems small enough that you may be metabolizing as fast as it is going in. add liver enzyme being to high it is very possible that you did nothing wrong and i have know people who metabolize oxycodone, morphine, or hydromorphone so fast urine screen always negative. but the full synthetics like: methadone, demerol, fentanyl, levo-dromoran, that enzyme CYP-216 metbolizes works. do you feel like Butrans got ahead of your pain to where you had pain free hours in a day? When I first started the patch it did seem to help and I did have some pain free time. It also showed up in my urine the first couple months. Then my pain started to increase and it's still not as bad as without the patch. But the patch isn't helping like it was. I don't really have any pain free time anymore and now it's now showing up in my urine.

The dr did mention something about the liver but didn't want to try to look into. He said there wasn't really anyway to know for sure or something like that.
