postherpetic neuralgia

Hi, just wanted to say welcome, I have no personal experience with that, my old room mate had that same disorder, though she had no insurance and no money to pay for treatment. She had pain over her whole back and wrapping around her abdomen. More then once she actually blacked out from the pain. I just couldnt believe how severe it really was. She said it was that feeling of touching a hot skillet, only leaving your hand on it.

I have had Postherpetic neuralgia for a year and a half. Have been on large doses of Gabapentin. I just want this to go away but see no signs of that happening. Going to a Neuroligist hoping he will do an epidural but he says that could leave me paralyzed. Does anyone have any advice??

Yes, I've 2 epidurals...very painful for me...I passed out during the second...it didn't work at all. Then went on to have the spinal cord stimulator trial. Oh, man, oh! For one week in electro hell!
Now they gave me an injection for a med. pump. It worked! The effects lasted 12 hours...the first relief in 8 yrs. now onto the actual implant procedure. It's described as having a hockey puck implanted in my upper buttock area.
I'm new to this site and would appreciate anyone responses...
It was having shingles as my partner was dying in 06'.
