What is the most-hated sentence?

New doctor: "You're not in that much pain."

Me: "You didn't even look at my xrays."

Doctor: "I don't have to look at your xrays!"

My most hated sentence: "You had back surgery so you should be all better now"

How about. "Your back looks pretty good for someone your age."

My old Dr saying on more than one occasion: "You said you were better..." Me: "No, I've never said that, I feel worse" Dr: "Oh yes, you did say that"

Me: got a new doctor

My old Dr: "There's nothing wrong with your neck" forgetting the MRI showed numerous problems.

Drives me 1/2 crazy when they say you look fine!!!!

For me, right now it's a toss up between:

"your MRI (or whatever test) looks normal" which is often followed by telling me there is nothing wrong, or theres nothing they can/will do for the pain.

OR

"let's wait and see what happens" meaning, I'm not going to do anything for you. And I already HAVE waited to see what would happen. I sure didn't go to the doc the day the pain started!! I tried the wait and see method.


I know there are many others, including one about how the pain is probably due to my depression. I even had a GI doc tell me a few months ago that he was sending me to biofeedback "in case some of the GI issues were psychological". What????? Got rid of him. Also had a neurosurgeon (who did 2 spinal cord surgeries on me in 3 weeks) refuse to see me because i had chronic pain that began after surgery and according to him, I shouldn't have had any pain. Jerk.

Did the doctors get a handbook with these comments along with their degrees?

'Cause I'm betting I am not the only one shuddering because these cruel statements show that the people
who are suppose to care FOR us do not care about us?

That said, my first thoughts when I read this post's subject line had nothing to do with doctors at all -
Was what I just wrote a post about a few days ago..
The disbelief expressed by family/friends,
Still, after 10 yr,
Those comments vary but usually are blaming me for being in pain -
usually starting with
"You would feel much better if you just.. (numerous fill-in the blank possibilities)"
".. exercise"
".. eat (this or) don't eat .."
"Go back to work"
