It totally freaked me out and made my day when I went and checked the mail and found my handicap placard sitting out there. It came 1 week to the day I mailed the application in even though it said on the application that it could take up to 6 weeks before receiving it.

On a side note I went to the store this morning and seen 2 cars with no placards or plates parked in handicap spots. It really edit me off. I am thinking about making up a bunch of little flyers on the computer and start putting them on these vehicles as well as vehicles of those people who use them incorrectly.

That is a great idea, Jim. Let those unqualified folks parking in handicap spots know they're being watched.

I have had handicap plates on my car for years now. I have actually made people move their cars if I see them pull into a spot & not have plates or a placard, it does not bother me one bit to tell them I will call the police & they will get a ticket. I have been cursed at by some but I just look at them & smile which really makes them livid. I pull right up by them & tell them they need to move.

Well I printed up about a dozen notes warning people of parking in handicap spots and also informing them of what can happen to them if they are caught. I also warned them that this is their only warning and that I will be reporting them in the future should I catch them again.

I did not nor will sign the notes so they will have no idea who it is that will turn them in and also to avoid any confrontations.

Here is what I wrote:

It is illegal to park in a handicap spot without a placard or handicap license plate. It is also illegal to park in a handicap spot if the person to whom the placard or plate is not with you or if they remain in the vehicle while you go inside.

I am giving you a break this time but if I ever catch you violating the law again I will call the police and report you which will mean several hundred dollars in fines and possibly losing the placard or plate if so issued.

Some stores will put their own notice on these scofflaws if you report them to management.

I wanted to go to a big store a couple of days ago, drove around and around looking for a place I could walk from. I had to go home instead of shopping.

The hospital I go to to see my doctors and get tests is getting remodeling. Construction is taking up ALL the handicap spaces by the doctors' office wing. There are only 5 handicap spaces in front of the main doors. I could go to valet parking, but it costs more than I want to pay. I'm going for tests this week at a different hospital.

In my city, there is a special handicap patrol and the fines range anywhere from $300 to $600 for this violation, I know I forgot once and was very lucky not to get a ticket. Let the patrol officers handle this as you might set off car alarms with putting those flyers on cars and you might get into more trouble by touching another persons's car. So let the law officers handle it or ask the store to call the local law enforcement...
Your too nice of a person to get into trouble so let the officer's handle it. They will get caught and the fine will be their punishment, but it could also be they simply forgot to hang it up as well, I forgot once...
