tramadol does not makes anything. What is the next step?.

Hi all.

I have taking tramadol since 2 weeks and it does not anything in relief my pain.

I am in bowel pain all the day since I wake up to I go to bed, Today I have go to my salud center and I cannot stay for more than 5 minutes without thinking and feeling my pain.

What is the next step in pain killers?, oxycontin?.

I will discuss you to my doctor, because I cannot live like this.

The next week I have a new test: a new colonoscopy with biopsies.

Yes I have taking it as my doctors says to me: 3 pills / day.
I have taking tramadol for 2 weeks by myself, and 1 week following instruction of doctor. I think that already i should feel  a begining of relief in my pain.
When I have headache , I take a tylenol and in the 30 next minutes I feel a relief.

@nvrthesame98 Antispasmodics drugs doesn´t work for me.
I have tried all of them: duspatalin, spasmoctyl, eldicet....simply does not works for me.
Donnatol is another antispasmodic.
My pain is not spasmodic, my pain is constant, in all the gut, and terrible. But I have not feel spasm. When I feel spasm in my bowel it does not produces me pain.

I suggested the class meds for their ability to "calm" the digestive tract. I'm thinking the pain may be as such that your probably clenching your gut all the time so the "relaxing " effects may give the pain meds a chance?

Can you get a copy of that first scan?

@tidalmouse but I have read that tramadol is opioid (narcotic), isn´t it?

I think Tramadol is supposed to act on your receptors in your brain in a similar fashion as morphine.

It's not an Opiate based medication.

We have had people here at the forum that do get relief with Tramadol. Everyone metabolizes medications differently so there is no way of knowing what will or will not work for you.

Seymour there are far too many to list but the one's we see the most also have varying strengths and form's.

The most common and I am listing from weakest to strongest here.

Tramadol
Hydrocodone
Oxycodone
Butrans
Morphine
Hydromorphone
Demerol
Methadone
Nucynta
Fentynal

These are strictly basic form's and all of them have many different form's, doses, combinations and prices. They also have different acceptable use clauses by the FDA and insurance companies. They may or may not be available in your country and may have totally different names. Therefore the reason no one ventured answering your original question.

Also be aware that DR's don't view in a positive light patients asking for particular meds by name and class.

Hopefully this will give you an idea of the complexity of asking us what's next? Its just not a cut and dried answer.

I'd say the next step is going back to the prescriber of the ultram (tramadol) and tell them it's not working. Let them lead you to opiates if that's where your path is supposed to go.

I have experience with many of the meds in the opiate class and have had varying degrees of success with them. I can tell you my stomach doc will absolutely not prescribe any opiates, ever. Opiates and digestive issues tend to equal no.

Have you seen pain management? Getting some strategies to deal with pain in the long term would be very helpful.
