Please help prepare me for the surgery

I am scheduled for trigger finger release surgery on June 2, 2014. My Dr. says it's nothing and very little pain or recovery time. I don't believe it's going to be that simple from what I've read. Any advice to help me prepare before and after? recommendations? I appreciate the help so this can go as smoothly as the Dr. seems to think. TY

Welcome to healing well. My best advice would be to use the search at the top of the page and enter the search criteria. In this case trigger finger and every post ever posted here and there are many as I recall. Read from what others here over the years have posted about surgery and post-op recovery.

Good luck with the procedure.

For the most part, assuming everything goes right, there is very little pain. The worst will be during the first 24-48 hours and after that it should subside quickly to the point that it is more uncomfortable than true pain at the end of the 1st week.

The big secret is to do what your physical therapist tells you to do. There will be some pain and discomfort at the start but if you fight through it and do what they tell you to do the best you can the pain will not last long.

I have had several trigger release surgeries. It is surgery, but not a long or hard recovery. Your hand will be wrapped up, and you will have to keep it dry until the stitches come out, but you will be able to wiggle your fingers right away.

For me, by the next day I was fine on just Advil. After one of them, I was even back at work the next day as a preschool teacher. I was not allowed to lift, but there was a lot if my job I was able to do.

As others said, listen carefully to the instructions from with the surgeon or hand therapist in when and how to start moving your finger to avoid any complications.

Listen to Vickie and search the forum.

There's no pain until the nerve block wears off. When you notice that happening, probably sometime in the night, take your prescribed med immediately and you'll be fine.

All I had for the surgery was a blocking injection and I felt nothing. I had 3 fingers done and it took 15 minutes total. There is no need for any more anesthesia or other medications. I was happy to have my head clear the whole time. I held a nurse's hand and we chatted. My hand wasn't visible the way the surgeon was holding it. Then it was bandaged up and put in a foam protector and I went home.

It looks really impressive all bandaged up. Maybe you'll even get some sympathy. There's only a couple of stitches though.
