I need help

I have ulcerative colitis and I have a feeling I also have some other accompanying autoimmune disease. I am in almost constant pain and can't seem to get any help or answers. I moved a couple of years ago from my home state to MO and have yet to find what I would consider a decent doctor. My joints become inflamed related to the UC and I have slipped and herniated discs. I am not a drug abuser, I just want to be able to function (somewhat) normally. It is becoming so depressing I don't know what to do. I can't even go play in the back yard with my daughter. Any advice? I appreciate it. I don't know where to turn. I feel like the people here where we have moved are not very friendly and I have no friends or family here. (it was a work move)

Just wanted to add that the few times I have been able to obtain anything for pain, I feel like I'm treated like a junkie and prescribed 20 or 30 5mg vicodin. It's incredibly frustrating. I don't know where to go next.

I don't have any good advice, partly b/c I over did it yesterday with cleaning/sorting stuff and my back and body are super sore, plus I desperately need sleep (not sure why I am telling you this!), but I wanted to say I am sorry you are suffering so much. I hope you listen to Mercy & Grace and get yourself a doc who can help sort things out. And it may take a few docs before you find one you like and you feel is helping, but do not give up!! I know it's hard, but you have to be persistent. There is someone out there who can help, just gotta find them. Easier said than done, I know. But keep pushing. You will find answers. If you give up, you have zero chance of finding the answer. At least if you are searching, it may take a while, but you'll get to the bottom of it, and probably get some help with pain until it is figured out! Good luck and keep us posted. Lots of people on here will have good advice for you. But today, that is not me.

Just curious, how old are you and how old is your daughter?

The fact that the x-ray tech warned you about the pain dr, says that there are good caring people where you live now. Sometimes it just takes a while to find them. Are you involved in any of the school activities at your daughters school ? That can be a great place to meet new people who are good and caring. Some of the most supportative, understanding, good and caring people I've ever known, we meet through PTA & school activities.

Mickey it can take a year or more before someone develops a good relationship with their doctor or doctors before they seemingly take you seriously.

I do not know anything about the doctor you seen for your pain, but I will tell you that there are 2 types of pain management doctors out there. Those who will do anything to treat pain and those who the most they will do is procedures such as injections. It sounds like you probably ran into the latter and odds are good that you wouldn't have gotten any medications anyway.

Beyond that it is very rare to find a doctor who will, at first, prescribe you with anything stronger than tylenol or ibuprofen. Sadly you have moved and that means starting over at square one when it comes to pain management.

Welcome to HW. Many have said it's best to get new scans done and I agree. Where exactly or close proximity are you there? I lived many years in OK right across the state line and actually had a PM Dr in Joplin. There has to be some good DR's there because I know 2 ppl who can't get good PM care in Illinois and they go there to the Dr. Must be you're just not getting good information about who to see.

OMG, I just realized in my original post that I listed 30mg vicodin as what I was prescribed! (rarely) LOL, I meant 20-30 FIVE mg!
