Hi all.

 

The last pain-killer I have tested is: celebrex, with no relief at all... :(


I cannot resist anymore. Today I have been all the day in pain.


What can I do?.

Seymour, all you can do is tell him/her that the new medicine is not working and continue to allow any tests your doctor orders. Also, unless you are experiencing intolerable side effects that do not go away, always give a new med a couple of weeks to work. And if you aren't happy with your current doctor, seek out the opinion of another. I know it's not much, but that's all the advice I've got. Hang in there....

I know how frustrating all this is for you, I echo Splashdancer, let your Dr know it's not working and if you aren't happy with this Dr see another, I eventually changed mine, waited too long and should have done it months ago.

You are really suffering, wish I had more advice, I know how hard it is.

Celebrex is for arthritis, it is not for stomach pain.

Seymour, was the Celebrex prescribed by your doctor? I'm concerned that you're taking a medication that probably shouldn't be prescribed for stomach pain as it can cause severe stomach problems. Celebrex is an anti-inflammatory (like Advil) and can cause bleeding and ulcers. Seems that someone in your condition would want to stay away from NSAIDs (just my opinion, of course).

We seem to be missing pieces of the puzzle here. Have you spoken with your doctor (assuming the Celebrex was prescribed by the doctor)? What did the doctor say? Any word on the results of your biopsies? Many questions here that need answers if you're to get to the bottom of what's causing your pain.

Yeah, it didn't even dawn on me about the Celebrex when I responded. Seymour, like other members have pointed out, Celebrex is not a drug that would be prescribed to treat stomach pain/discomfort. Although it is prescribed to treat many types of acute pain and even menstrual cramping - it is an NSAID and is definitely not a medication that would be used to treat pain within the digestive system.

Seymour I echo what others are saying here and if your Dr is prescribing these meds then you need to find another Dr and soon. Celebrex like stated is a drug used for inflammation in things like arthritis and is very hard on your stomach. If any Dr gave you that for your issues you need to seriously leave his care.

I have asked this before way back and ask again. Do you live close to a Medical school,University teaching hospital, whatever you call them there? If you can get to one do so!! You need to be somewhere that a multitude of different specialists are under one roof and can work together to get this figured out.

Splashdancer: First of all thank you for your advice. I don´t understand the fact to give the medicine a couple of weeks. It is pain medicine and I should notice his effects since the begining, isn´t it?.


Thundercloud: Thank you very much for your support :), I am happy with my doctor, but I am not happy with pain killers, nothing works with me.


straydog: My doctors says to me that celebrex works very good to visceral pain also, but for me it does not works, perhaps I must wait two weeks or more?.


Sephie: I still don´t have the result of my biopsies.

I don't know how things work over there Seymour but here your inability to pay is exactly why you would go to the teaching hospital. They're based on income, subsidized by federal health programs, the majority of the works done by students still learning under the direct supervision of the DR's that are teaching and therefore those reasons they see all the difficult to diagnose, complex diseases with out of ordinary symptoms, preform tests that are still under trial phases including studies and new medications. Because its a teaching and research hospital the doctors and surgeons are for the majority world renowned and the best of the best in their fields. That's why we keep pushing you to try to get into one even if you have to get there via the emergency room.

Hi Seymour! With all due respect to your doctor, Celebrex is an NSAID and is more apt to CAUSE abdominal pain/discomfort, than ease it. Celebrex is an anti-inflammatory. It helps by reducing inflammation and sometimes it can take a bit for that inflammation to be reduced and the pain that it's causing to go away. But again, NSAIDs tend to CAUSE abdominal pain and distress - the very symptoms you are complaining of. Usually, the only 'visceral' pain Celebrex is used to treat is menstrual cramping (which is caused by inflammation).

You say that you are happy with your doctor, but he is not finding the cause of your problem - I think it is time for another set of eyes to take a look at you. I totally understand that you want to find a medication that will ease your pain/discomfort - but it is more important to find out what is causing your symptoms. Masking symptoms does not cure the reason for the pain - and often times can make things worse. Pain/discomfort is our body's way of telling us that something is wrong. If you lessen/eliminate those warning signs without knowing what's wrong, whatever is causing them can worsen and you wouldn't even know it. The type, severity, duration, and triggers of pain can all assist a doctor in diagnosing the cause.
