A couple who are friends with my Husband lost their daughter at a tender age. Today we received a pamphlet with bracelets to wear in her honour. I would like to post what is written on the back of the pamphlet and share an abbreviated version of this young woman's struggle for survival and what she did at the end to enrich the life of strangers.

Preface: I will be posting this in the AP forum as well, as I feel my HW family resides in both places as well as in my heart. I understand the rules about duplicate posting, so I will leave it to another Mod should they decide either post is being put in an inappropriate place. Personally, I just want to share and give thanks.




Gina 6/23/89 -- 11/10/13

"Even as none of us understand the pain and sense of Gina's tragic accident, Gina is a hero! A hero, who in her last hour, gave a lifetime to others.

Sixty lives enhanced through Gina's tissue, let burnt survivors recover, and cancer victims rebuild their lives. The gift of her eyes will let the blind see, not to mention the 7 lives that were saved:

LIVER............6 month old Baby Boy, 33 year old Woman

HEART...........63 year old Man

BOTH LUNGS........62 year old Woman

KIDNEYS.........Left -- 58 year old Woman,....Right -- 73 year old Man

PANCREAS........34 year old Woman."




Thank you for letting me share this as a small way for Gina to live on and continue to inspire and touch the lives of strangers.

I am sorry about your friend, Merrida. What a wonderful act of kindness to be so generous with her organs to save other's lives.

What a beautiful act. I'm thankful her family was aware of her wishes and made this happen. I hope that gives them and you some comfort to know how many she helped.

I'm so sorry for your friend. I have two friends that have benefitted from organ donation. It is such an a hard yet selfless act. I made it known to my friends and family that I wanted to be an organ donor. Now I am no longer able to due to other issues, but I truly believe those who do donate are heroes.

Thank you everyone, for reading the post and replying.

I think of how many moments where we touch each other's lives,....or have the ability to and don't realize we're doing it!

It comes in many forms....

We were not aware of the extent of this until yesterday's "update," and yes, it warmed my heart to read of the many, many gifts Gina selflessly left for others.

I do still pray for the family. This is one step closer to processing, I believe....

The goal of her folks is to have Gina's remembrance bracelets in every state and to have one person from each state wear a bracelet and take a photo near some type of nationally recognize state monument to send in to them, to complete their own "map" of Gina's presence in every state in the country.

Perhaps that will be their moment.

At any rate, thanks to all for prayers for the family who consider to process and mourn this untimely loss.....

I would hope should I as a parent ever be faced with such a situation I could be as unselfish. It would take a lot of courage and I commend such people.

Merrida - I'm so sorry for your friends' loss. What a courageous act, and a beautiful way to celebrate and remember their daughter.

I am sorry that you have lost such a dear friend, it is heart breaking when this happens. I too believe in organ donation & wish more people would consider doing this. I hope her parents get some comfort & peace knowing how much their daughter has helped others. What a wonderful story to share with us.

This is such a good thing to remember! There have been days when I am too ill to do much more than walk the dog or nip out for a quick trip to the grocery, and a pleasant interaction with someone, however brief and (seemingly) unsubstantial in content, will really boost my spirits and give me a bit of strength and hope to keep pushing through the tough times.

Knowing this, I do try and give the time to others as has been given to me. :)

This is so touching,

God Bless Gina and her parents, the remembrance bracelet's in every State is so beautiful and I hope Gina's parents find comfort in this.
