DEA crushing Civil Rights

I love Island Family Pharmacy in St. Augustine, FL. I have been using them for years. However, the DEA has decided to intimidate this independent pharmacy and have them refuse to fill Schedule II medications if the LEGAL prescription(s) are written in any county other than St. Johns County (like a specialist 26 miles away and I live right down the street from my pharmacy). I have been seeing a pain management doctor for several years and now cannot get my prescriptions filled in Saint Johns County (St. Augustine) anymore as of two weeks ago only Duval county (20+ miles North) and most the pharmacies there refuse to fill them even though they are legitimate prescriptions for legitimate reasons. It is a nightmare and I am looked at like I am a criminal every time I bring in my prescriptions. The DEA is stepping outside their boundaries and infringing on our Civil Rights. This is affecting pain management patients, cancer patients, Hospice patients, Veterans and any other patient that require Schedule II medication(s). They (the DEA) are taking away our ability to see any Doctor/Specialist we wish to see or our Insurance company tells us we must see. Something must be done immediately as patients are suffering for no other reason than our "bloated" Government (specifically the Drug Enforcement Agency / DEA) over-stepping their boundaries and stomping on our Civil Rights by telling pharmacies who they can and cannot fill prescriptions for. And the independent pharmacies have to abide or else the DEA will most likely shut them down to audit them and most likely put them out of business. Something needs to be done about this because I know many patients are suffering.

I'm not sure who told you this, but I see no proof of it. It is possible that your dr is being investigated and the pharmacists know this and that is why they don't want to fill it. But, it isn't because the DEA told them not to fill certain prescriptions.

Not at all. I was lucky enough to get my prescriptions filled, but countless others cannot. The owner was told he could only fill Schedule II from Doctors in St. Johns County and relayed it to me. I know the owner very well and my Doctor does not over prescribe by any means.

Hello and welcome Wolfe to HW. It's a Florida again not necessarily the DEA. Surprised its taken them that long to implement the ruling! Its been that way for a year or more in central and south Florida. Many folks go to Orlando to the Dr since there are many more specialists and go home to Deltona, or Daytona and can't fill their meds.

Its double edged because they wonder why your filling something 70 miles away from your home and then they come up with no out of county fills on class II meds. You cant win.

The regulations for filling narcotics has always been you must fill it in the state the Dr wrote it unless that Dr has a license to practice medicine in the state you were filling in. Now in Florida it's counties and they say it has to do with the pharmacy not being familiar with out of country Drs.

Just more restrictions!

It isn't the Feds doing this, or they would be doing it all over the nation. It is the state boys that are flexing their muscles and you can thank your state senators and representatives for it.
