First post. Confused

I'm so sorry for all this pain you're going through. Oh my dear, it's no wonder you feel miserable. I can understand going through your life with something wrongly or inaccurately diagnosed,-- or missed, -- you must feel like you're on a wild goose chase!

Please do not give up hope.

You may have mentioned this before, but I forgot....have you access to a teaching hospital? Many times, they're the ones who have cutting edge technology and can perform procedures way in advance before the "regular docs" get trained in this.

I owe my ability to walk to Tufts, which is a teaching hospital. And, I was just beginning to lose control of my,...."bodily functions" as well. So there, we've both shared some of those private things, so you're not alone!!

I take ibruprophen religiosly. Its my husbands because he has tennis elbow, but he never takes it. The doctors only give me tramadol and naproxen which doesnt help.

I dont really mind because my stomach is so sensitive i have a hard time with many medications. I know i take too much ibruprophen because i been getting terrible sstomach aches and bad reflux.

You said you take a lot of ibuprofen? Does that not irritate your stomach/gerd also?

Even Tylenol?

Tramadol might be an exception? What narcotic pain meds have you tried and what were the results? And as for the type of pain meds used for nerve pain (which are very different), what type of results did you get from them?

I have a rough experience with "most antidepressants" as well, and have had dreadful s/e's from all of them that I've tried until I found my current "blend."

Did you discuss additional meds to use temporarily to assist with the s/e's of some of the A/D's you're being tried on?

Bakomom, I am a new member to the forum as of today July 7th. I first found out I had Fibro in 1994. I know that was the exact year because my husband and I were adding on to our log house. I got out of bed, picked up a hammer, dropped it and anything else I tried to pick up. An hour after getting out of bed I had to go back to bed and go into a "coma". I felt like I had the flu, only it didn't go away. Now I've learned on my own that I'm going to have a rough day with Fibro if my toes start hurting. Then the pain goes from there. I immediately cancel any plans for that day because I get "Fibro Fog" real bad in addition to the pain. I went through all of the Drs who didn't know what to do with me, including the Rheumatologist. She did check me out for everything it could be and everything was "normal" so she told me I had Fibro and "Good Luck"! I've had to learn how to treat MYSELF with this. Doctors in general don't have a clue (unless they have Fibro too--Ha. I've found that massage helps me immensely. I know it's hard to imagine getting deep massage, but that's what has helped to relax the muscles (especially my stress holding muscles in my neck shoulders and between my shoulder blades.. That gives the previously tight muscles the chance to get blood and nutrients and helps calm me down. I also have a Jacuzzi with wonderful jets to hit the right spots. After each of these and on any other day I make it a priority to lie down and listen to my favorite calming music. Staying in bed all day like I used to did make me feel worse because I got stiff and hurt more. I push myself to get out and go visit a dear elderly friend--concentrating on others helps me forget how bad I feel. I also have frequent spinal misalignment from being run over by a car at age 4 which deformed my pelvis. I go to a Chiropractor but I refuse to have any "popping and cracking" done. This Dr. performs what is called Cranial Sacral Manipulation. You lie down fully clothed (I wear clothes that allow her to better feel my skeletal structure) and she uses very subtle movements along my spine from head to sacrum (hence the name) and somehow amazes me with the relief I get. I go in not able to even bend over to tie my shoes and I walk out being able to touch my toes! It's amazing! She knows exactly what's out of alignment and where I need work. Maybe see if you can find someone who does C-S Manipulation. It has really increased the quality of my life.
