Questions about some medications

I didn't find butrans to be all that good for pain,fent is probably the most frequently used pain med here and not sure what palexia is?

A lot of pain med treatment seems to be trial and error. I've tried dozens of meds over the years, mostly didn't work for me because of side effects, some ineffective. I have three pages, typed, of meds, including OTC, and my reactions. I list ones that work and the dosage too.

I would go with whatever the doctor recommends. Keep a diary/journal of meds and their effects. Also keep foods and drinks and reactions in the diary since you mentioned you don't tolerate foods either. I keep my journals right on the kitchen counter top so it reminds me to write. It's a good way of keeping track of when I take my meds too.

I keep my med and reactions list on the computer so I can add and change things easily. I have a paper copy in mu purse of my important history, meds, allergies, etc. folded in half in a plastic zip bag that held a pillowcase. It's come in handy after an accident and other emergencies. A thumb drive is a good idea, but nobody will put it in a computer, so paper is best.

I keep a bright yellow card in my wallet with a list of meds, allergies, major conditions too. I also have cards for stent placements, major conditions (autonomic dysreflexia). [Autonomic dysreflexia needs different treatment than a bystander would expect: have to sit up, must not lie down. So you see the reason for the cards.]

I would suggest you try fentanyl patches. Morphine block the microreceptors in your entrails causing constipation, you'll have far less of this with patches of course.

Fentanyl is however much more powerful than morphine (developed in the 1950s by Paul Janssens, a late friend of mine for NATO, to be used on a nuclear battlefield) and might cause nausea and bouts of vomiting. Reducing the dose usually does the trick. As was said here before, it is often a process of trial and error.

I used to have those patches for amongs other things, a shattered coccyx, so I have a pretty good idea what you're going through. Intestinal problems should subside with fentanyl although, should you have to throw up, make sure you keep well hydrated.

Ironically, I'm now on 105 mg morphine a day to treat chronic diarrhoea and intestinal blood loss. Morphine can be a ***** (no offense meant, you know the expression I take it).

On the restless leg syndrome, had the same, turned out to be caused by the shattered lower discs (3 lowest). Once that problem was solved, the restless leg syndrome simply vanished. Don't know if there is a way to fix your coccyx, but if I were you, I'd look into that.

Should you go with fentanyl, I think it would be best to ask for various dosages (if that is permitted where you live). 50 or 20 micrograms (yes micrograms, not milligrams, that's how powerful it is; 2 mg kills you) is already a lot for a first time user and you really want to avoid the bouts of vomiting if you can. On the other hand, once you have the right dose, it's a very convenient product: 1 patch every 3 days does the trick.
