I'm having my first PT appt tomorrow. Just thinking about
it makes me dread it bc I remember it so well after my 1st back surgery 5 yrs ago. I must keep an
open mind and give it my best. Not looking forward to the increase in pain. That was my experience before . I hope and pray for improvement and that it gets me where I need to be. My hips and buttocks hurt so very bad. It's almost unbearable. What is scary to me is that the very pain I had hoped the surgery would help has come back full force. Today was the 6 week post op day. I feel exactly as I did the day before surgery. I don't understand how or why that can be. It's very discouraging and upsetting. I will do my best and try my hardest to make this better. I've been working on my attitude and outlook. It hasn't been the best, to say the least. But this pain is so horrible, it's hard to be positive. I am trying....

You're still very fresh out of surgery, and yes, some of those PT days can be stressful and painful.
But if you feel you're being hurt, speak up and say something. They can move a little slower if that's what you need.
When I had my spinal surgery, oh dear goodness, it was many, may months before I began feeling better, and even now, 1.5 years later, I still have symptoms, but at the same time, I'm still getting these really cool improvements.
Please, do not rush this. Please, do not let your impatience and eagerness get in the way. It takes a lot longer than many of our surgeons lead us to believe when it comes to healing. (That's where forums like this come in as good reminders).
Take things slow, one day at a time, it's normal and expected to feel worse before better (and boy can I attest to that!!), and remember, you always need to speak up for yourself if what you're doing, or what they have you do, feels unsafe for you or you do not feel ready!!

Merrida is right, impatience is our enemy; healing takes time, a lot of time.
I also like her line: "My time for tears will be at my Victory...not at the start of the War", that's good, that's really good. As a military man I appreciate that. Actually, I think I'm gonna steal it (commandeered for the good of the country, that's what we always say).
You might wan to look at the poem 'Invictus' by William Ernest Henley. That's my favourite (it also was FDR's favourite) and that's what got me trough life; 41 years old and 35 of them in chronic pain. This poem did wonders for me.
As for the rest, try to be patient, and, if it is any consolation, people are creatures of habit, eventually we get used to everything, even pain.
Good luck, and read the poem.

So how did the PT go or were you able to have it? Hope it was gentle since you are so fresh from surgery.

Morgoth, I will read the poem you suggested. Thank you all for the encouragement and support. I had to cancel and reschedule PT due to a family emergency. It is going to be tomorrow ( actually today) at 2:30. I am ready to get this going.
