I've suffered from chronic back pain for the last 25 years. For the last 10 years, the pain is never below a 5 (out of 10). Most days it comes in waves from 6-9. I've been diagnosed with arthritis in my knees and lower back as well as fribromyalgia. I'm currently taking gabbapentin, fluxotine, and soma. I'm highly allergic to pretty much all pain meds short of surgical. They've tried vicodin, codeine, percocet, and morphine. I developed bad side effects to all after the second or third dose.
This is my final year teaching and I don't want it to end with me unable to do my job. I've had MRIs, xrays, accupuncture, been to more specialists than I can count. They've shot me full of cortisone, and sent me on my way.
Mayo did a thorough work-up and settled on fibromyalgia. Is there any relief to be found? I live in the desert and am in the tiny percentage who hurts more in heat. We're moving to the pacific northwest in a year.
I'm tired of pain...and feeling like a burden...and some days life in general.
Most of all, I'm tired of people not understanding the exhaustion of being in pain 24/7.
Thanks for any help.
