Char,
The eyes are a mess. Pain is still horrendous for the most part. Although I started on a new medication this summer, which has some promise for at least reducing the pain a little. We are still playing around with dosing. The drug is being used off-label, so we are kind of in uncharted territories.
My eye muscle alignment is still changing almost from day to day. And I've been having major issues with dry eye, too. But there is not really much we can do right now. We are currently waiting for one of my autoimmune eye disease to stabilize (usually has an inflammatory "active phase" of ~ 2 yrs, followed by a fibrotic, "inactive phase"). Once that happens, hopefully we can do more surgery to correct the alignment. But that is also complicated by the fact that there is a ton of inflammation behind my bad eye that may need to be dealt with via decompression surgery first (hopefully not, as the sound of that surgery terrifies me!!). So far I don't think we need to do anything that drastic, but it things get much worse, we may. So it is just kind of a wait and see game at the moment, and deal with things the best that I can. We are just coming up on the 2 yr mark since I was diagnosed with this particular autoimmune disease, so I'm hoping and praying that by this winter, things will start to stabilize, and we can at least do the muscle alignment surgery to help with the vision. That should at least make reading and driving a little easier.
Definitely doesn't make life easy with school and all, but that is nothing new. It is what it is. I just take things day by day and do the best that I can do. I'm halfway through school now, so I'm on the home stretch. And hopefully things will get a bit easier (on the eyes anyway) after this semester, once I finish the major academic coursework and start clinics. I'm through the hardest part, anyway.
I'm sorry to hear that you are still having problems, too! I agree with you, I really wish that there was a magic cure. Either that, or a place where I could trade in my eyes for a pair of new ones! ;-)
Anyways, it is great to hear from you! Hang in there, my friend!
