BEING discharged QUESTION about prescriptions.

Your dealing with floor nurses who generally don't have a lot of experience with chronic pain meds and how they work but I should be surprised over the Drs inaccurate comments. There's more proof supporting the opposite of her statements regarding abuse of oxy ER and IR,in fact it's the IR that got all the hoopla started here in Florida and be absolutely sure you are going to be able to get that script filled before you leave there. It's difficult for first time patients to even find because the allowed amount the pharmacy can get is usually reserved for the returning customers. Some states are harder than others and you don't want to get home and find you have nothing to take.

It's also statistically significant that ER meds offer better,smoother and longer pain relief.

If this doesn't work get ahold of your surgeon immediately tomorrow and don't let the pain get too far ahead of you.

It's actually very common for post-op patients to run low grade temperature 24-48 hrs after,your body's natural defense against intrusion and foreign matter. The fever alone will make you feel flu like and keeping it down with Tylenol should be easy. However,if you run into issues of it not responding to Tylenol and or it gets higher than 100 consistently for a day get back to the hospital for blood work.

Until you get the med issues resolved take the oxy ir around the clock at what ever time lapse ordered!! Do not wait until the last dose wears off any the pain starts building back up. I would do that for at least one week and then back it down to waiting the longer time limits allowed. If it's ordered every 4-6 hrs then for now take it on time every 4. After a week you can back it to every 6 for a few days and see what happens when you push the limits.

I guess maybe they don't want you to take Nucynta and Oxyconton,both ER meds.

I'm kind with you on this.If something is working don't change it.Because we all know how hard it is to find something that works.

I took Nucynta 150 for a few months.It made me sleep 15 hrs a day so they changed it.But I actually went through wd's switching from Lortab to Nucynta.

I hope you get adequate pain control at home.At least you won't have to wait til 8 am for your 5 am Meds there.

Hey Merrida, thanks for your post. My nucynta is 50mg IR and they are writing to take 1 or 2 every 6 Hours. 15 mg of the oxycodone every 4 hours

Unfortunately I do not have a pain doctor. I will ask one more time about the long acting ocycontin but I think this is just the way they do their meds. Thanks again, have a great Sunday!

Ditto to what Vickie said. I did not see a muscle relaxer mentioned either & those are a must right after surgery. If you did not get a script for a muscle relaxer then a call needs to be put in to the dr today do not wait until Monday. Its alway tough when the regular dr has his day off right after he has done surgery on a patient, then you are stuck with someone who knows nothing about the patient. You would have to be on Oxycontin quite some time before building up a tolerance to it. I get so tired of these uneducated drs when it comes to pain & pain medications.

When my husband went back to the drugstore to pick up my prescriptions, my surgeon had already called in the muscle relaxer- cyclobenzapine.

here is where this story gets weird, (well, weirder) the nurse told me that I shouldn't take the muscle relaxer with nucynta or oxycodone because it can cause "serotonin syndrome"! I vaguely remember yesterday afternoon when the nurse came into my room and told me that. I completely forgot about it when I was doing all the discharge papers, etc.

Oh! I forgot to mention that going over bumps on the ride home did NOT hurt like it used to do! I mean, I felt it and it was uncomfortable, but it was surgical pain, NOT bone on bone. YAY!

Do y'all know anything about this interaction? Sheesh

No truer words were ever spoken. Ice feels soooo good! I am keeping multiple ice packs in the freezer so one so always ready. I came home, which really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Most bumps in the road didn't hurt like they always have. They hurt, but I can tell it's incision pain, instead of the usual bone on bone pain! Yay. I am using my old wedge pillow that I used for my anterior surgeries years ago. It feels like Heaven to be home.

I sure hope you are feeling well. I am so happy to be home and to know the surgery is behind me! :)

I'm for whatever helps you. If that's a hospital bed, then get it. I stayed in my wonderful recliner most of the time. Hope you get help with meds and that fever.

I'm seeing my surgeon this afternoon. I hope he does an x-ray and sees lots more fusion.

Don't overdo and think Fusion. That's the motto for several of us here.

After my fusion surgery I had a fever for 5 days. Later I found out I got MERSA during my fusion surgery. I found out the hard way too, had to have another surgery to remove the MERSA cyst in my right sinus.

Anyway, I'm on the meds you are taking but with different doses. Percocet 10/325 and Nucynta 200MG ER. I take these two meds together but I won't mix them with my muscle relaxer (soma) as it'll make you so loopy you can't speak correctly. It's happened to me once.

I should have rented a hospital bed but after 5 days during my hospital stay I was so uncomfortable that I barely slept.

I have another fusion surgery coming up eventually (haven't scheduled it yet).
