Well...where to start...2 weeks today and i am still taking pain meds 1-2 times a day. I went for breakfast and to the store with a friend and was only out for about 2 hours. ..feels like i was run over by a bus ! This was my first " outing" since surgery. Ihave gone with the hubby to take my daughter to volleyball practice but that's only a 15 min car ride total . On a good note....the last two nights ive been able to sleep in my bed and got a solid night sleep with no interruption! Yeah me ! The down side is waking up sooo stiff.but after moving around i loosen up. When the pain in my neck and traps get bad is when the pain in my left arm starts. The arm pain isnt constant like before surgery, it comes and goes. I had NO arm pain for 6 days after surgery. ...then it started coming back ....is it normal ? Maybe there was nerve block when i had the surgery and now it wore off ? They gave me lerica (spelling)? While in the hospital. Is this something i should ask for? Well im going to ice my neck and take a rest so i can make it to my daughters volleyball game tonight. Thanks for listening! ! Hope for a beautiful and blessed day for all ! wink

Hello,

Pain meds 1-2 times a day and 2 hours before the bus runs you down sounds about right to me. I'll let others answer your question about medication. I do think it's normal for those nerves to take some time to heal so the left arm pain will slowly go away, at least that's our prayer. Did riding in the car bother you before surgery, or now? I refer to it as the bumpy road pain where it seemed that each rock we went over hurt me-mine was gone post-op. My husband is so very glad!

Hope you have some back support while watching the game. That was important to me. Also I've had this nervous feeling about anyone being behind me, just in case they bumped me, so watch for that in crowds. I still prefer to sit in a booth in restaurants.

It really sounds like you are doing well. Rest in your bed is great!

You could very well be over doing it. Do give yourself time to heal up. It takes quite a long jorney to heal from major surgery...
Many well wishes...
Follow all your doctors orders...and avoid car travel unless absolutely needed...

Oh goodness gracious!

You are still extremely fresh from surgery! As in extrreeeeeemellyyyy fresh!

I can appreciate your eagerness to get on with it and get going (believe me, I've been guilty of that on more occasions that I'd care to admit)....but please, please,...slow down and be super gentle and kind with yourself right now.

You are in the super-duper early stages of recovery.

Healing takes time. Quite a bit of time. Please do not over-do it and risk hurting yourself. It won't make you heal faster! (Take it from me,-- I'm a veteran recipient of a boot-in-the-tookus for the things I've done all in the name of wanting to get "there" quicker/faster/better/now).

People like us, we need to be reined in occasionally. :)

Who would of thought just going out for breakfast and grabbing a couple items at the store would have put me in so much pain...ugg...lessons learned! I vow to take it easy or else " get a boot-in-the-tookus"! Love that saying ! "Ice is nice" and "think FUSION "!!!!!! I didnt go to my daughter's game :( which really upsets me because i am her biggest fan.,,this is the first game i have ever missed in the 10 years she has played sports. She is 14 and seen i wasn't myself when she came home from school..and her words were " you need to go get in your recliner and REST"! Hmm.who is the mom here? I took her advice ! Thanks all !

Smart daughter you have there. I hope she did well in her game knowing that you were where you needed to be.

Another saying we have here is You will be able to do everything again, just not all the same day. So you have to make choices about what is the most important. Maybe soon you will make it to a game IF you do nothing else that day, it's not far to drive, it does not go in to overtime..... I'm sure you can make those decisions about what you should do. And please do not let a stray ball hit you. A child bounced a basketball to me, I caught it and KNEW that was too much vibration-didn't do that again. So you will need to be surrounded by protective people when you do go to that game.

How's the swallowing now?

I'm proud of you!

I know how difficult that felt for you to not attend your daughter's game. But I must admit, you've raised a smart cookie there! Even she could see what you needed.

Remember, you've had a lot of work done, and this takes a long time to heal. Slow and easy wins!

And it's soooo true. Ice will be your bestest friend for quite a while to come. It works like a charm. :)

I am with the others, you are pushing too many buttons at one time. This is the very thing that will knock you backwards healing wise. Stay tuned in to your body & remember that you had a major surgery. Give yourself time with the thought of seeing your daughter play all the time in the future.

Abilene.....swallowing is much better then it was.still have to watch when i eat meat...i need to take small bites and chew chew chew.lol..the left side feels "Numb"? When i swallow liquids i can feel it going down the right side not left? Does that make sense? Is that normal?

It probably is normal according to what I've read here. I have no experience with that issue since I had posterior surgery. Others will have to respond to that.
