Anybody have ulcers?

If you have/had stomach ulcers, can you post a little about your symptoms prior to the discovery of your ulcers and what steps you took re your pain? What imaging (if any) did you have to find the ulcers?

Did you get dx'd with ulcers?

Did your doc scope you? Were you checked for h. pylori? How's your diet?

Managing the situation (once it's confirmed) and that which exacerbates the symptoms is far more effective than trying to mask the pain.

had EDG scope. Have a tight stricture in eaophagus that's ulcerated. Total gastrectomy 2005 after 20 yrs of resections due to long hx of ulcers. I use proteomics, nexium, carafate and liquid lidocaine to drink, 10mls for the pain. Lidocaine works wonders!!! I have a feeding tube. Symptoms were always nausea, pain in stomach, strong pain in mid chest! Vomiting when I ate d/t swelling, food cldnt go down. Hope yours get better. Best choice is liquid pepto which contains bi****h. Eat soft foods.

Oh, sorry - I don't have ulcers, my dad does, but since I'm the family "expert" on disease/pain relief, he was asking me for information. (And I was tested for H. Pylori about two weeks ago, came up clean.)

Okay, sorry for the confusion.

So did your dad get specifically dx'd with ulcers? Of what sort? What was he advised with regards to managing them?

And regardless of who or what, I can't emphasize enough just how important diet is when it comes to helping to manage.

Yes, DIET! Softest of foods, not spicy, no milk, eat baby food if u have to before u get to surgery. It destroyed my health by not taking it seriously enuf. Pepto-pink bi****h is best u can take over RXs even. Carafate.

Keep in mind the Pepto is very good, but not if someone has an allergy to aspirin.

But yep, good advice.

Not all Ulcers are the h.pylori type, I had an upper endoscopy done in 1994 it showed 2 bleeding ulcers that did get tested and were not the common h.pylori type. I had burning chest pain and sticky tar like stools (yeah, nasty, sorry!). And it hurt eating and I hated to eat, ate very little.. So if your having burning chest pains, get seen by a doctor to rule out heart problems and or ulcers..if you have symptoms get seen by a good gi doctor ... not all ulcers are h.. pylori...
Pepto is a no no....

Good point on how not all ulcers are created equal...(ie: not all h.pylori). Just trying to throw out some information and food for thought....things to look into.

I agree, definitely recommend a scope and see what's going on, to what degree, do what depth, and they can also take samples if need be to check the tissue.

I was a big concerned about the Pepto too because of the aspirin, but thank you for clarifying that.

I understand about the black tarry stools, and that's one of those signs where it means get thee to an ED immediately. I agree with Char on that one.

Also with Ulcers is you can bleed from the anus and rectum...and that can cause anemia and other problems and that's why it can be serious. If you suspect ulcers please see a doctor...GI Doctors...You can google more info on them...

Wow ! I had no idea Pepto had aspirin in it! So glad t know that! The last thing I need is aspirin! Why in the world wld they do that of all things?!
