Reactions to MRI contrast?

Anyone ever get migraines or eye pain as a result of the galadonium (sp?) used during an MRI w/contrast?

Hey BTL...I don't think I've ever had contrast with MRI...just with full body bone scan (no adverse reaction) Many years ago, as dinosaurs roamed the earth, I had horrid blinding headaches resulting from a myelogram (in the 80s)

I'm not prone to headaches but the only thing I've ever noticed has been a nasty metallic taste in my mouth. Clears in about eight hours for me.

Oh yeah, that funky taste in the mouth! They usually warn you before they inject the contrast that it's more common than not to experience a funky taste in the back of the throat. Takes about 10 seconds to hit and sure enough.

I'm allergic to a whole lot of things, so I was nervous about doing the contrast, and frankly, other than the goofy taste in my mouth,...all went well!

I'm allergic to contrast media as was my dad but no headache and the reaction was immediate and in the form of hives.

Hm. Interesting. I was hoping I could blame this vision thing on that.

I did get very nauseous this time after they put the dye in, which has never happened before. As soon as they put me back in after injecting the dye I squeezed the bulb and said get me out, I think I'm going to throw up. I didn't, I just took deep breaths and the feeling passed, but it had never happened before.

The tech put the dye in really fast though, I'm pretty sure that's why I got nauseous. It wasn't a new type of dye, or a new brand, I asked the tech.

My one experience with dye did not make me sick but it was also put in fast and needed to exit rather quickly. I was miserable and just knew I would not make it to the bathroom after getting out of that tube. Thankfully I did make it!

Now I know how important that is and will certainly request it be put in slowly if I ever have that again. I guess you will too BTL. blush
