Howdie All,

I stopped taking Hydrocodone about 3 years ago because I was getting headaches after about 3 pills in a day (22.5 mg).

Nevertheless, I wanted to try it again this month, as I found it less prone to make me sleepy (vs. oxycodone).

Well, the headaches are back and I've been using my emergency oxycodone supply most days in its place.

The headaches are so bad -- full blown migraines -- that I'm stuck in bed and still will have a lesser headache the next day.

I see my PM in 10 days -- but their office is very screwed up. If I see a nurse instead, then no med changes are allowed, just repeat scripts. So, there's a risk that I'll have to spend another month dealing with this (I know, I can ask to see the Doc, but from past experience, that just isn't going to happen).

So, I'm wondering, if anyone who has dealt with opioid headaches has found some way to relieve them... extra fluids, lots of ibuprofen, etc..

Actually Cogito I think about every other day I was on methadone I had horrible headache and excederin with with it always helped but you can't do that because of the hydro already having tylenol in it,maybe Anacin since it just has the ASA and caffeine? That combo is the only thing I have ever had help. Now I'm having the same thing start to happen on the MS contin and I really don't want to have to change meds again but hate having sick headache all the tim. II'm guessing these are some kind of rebound type headaches and that's even worse when your pain meds cause more pain.

I also was getting rebound migraines from Xodol which is Hydrocodone.  My PM Dr switched me to Oxycodone and those migraines are long gone.

Hello,

I always get terrible rebound headaches when I need to use my dilaudid. To combat those, I was given a prescription for ketorolac (Toradol), and I take one of those with two benadryl and boom, all better. Whenever I'm hospitalized for a flare and they give me dilaudid, I always ask for the "headache cocktail" too - IV ketorolac, metoclompramide and benadryl.

Just avoid using ketorolac too often, I've heard it's not particularly good for you.
