Hello All,

I hope everyone is having a low pain night. I know I'm NOT! I am curious if anyone has tried or is currently on the Butrans Patch and if it's helping etc.?

I was on the butrans patch for awhile with norco for breakthrough pain. It worked for awhile, but lost its effectiveness.

I was on butrans for a few months weaning off the last of a 15 year run on methadone and again the last 5 weeks due to Walgreens being idiots and neither time did I see much pain relief with it. I actually had to increase all my second line defenses. We have seen many come asking the same question and many more claiming no relief and even more having issues that the benefits didn't outweigh, Mainly side effects and withdrawl on starting butrans after having been on higher doses of opiates.

We say this time and again here and will once more, everyone has different experiences with meds.

My experience is the same as Whatx2

It worked very well for a few weeks, then lost its effectiveness, and I had gone up to the highest dose.

What2 and BTL they say the reason ppl report some relief early out for just a short period of time and nothing is not so much due to the relief your getting from he butrans but the fact you likely still have previous meds onboard and when those leave your system the butrans has little or no effects of its own. I have not a clue if that is a correct assumption or not but it made some sense.

I was on the 5 mg 7 day Patch.Minimal relief and it ran out on me on day 4 1/2.

That was 10 days a month with nothing.

I took 2 refills back to my PCP and asked for my Norco back.

I wanted it to work.I like the idea of taking less pills.

Good luck.Hope your Doctor will prescribe something to give you better pain control.

Are you in Pain Management?

My PMD has me on Opana ER 10mg x 2 and Hydromorphone 2 mg for breakthrough pain.

It took me a couple of years of not so great Doctors to find the Pain Management Doctor I'm seeing now.

1st thing she told me is I'm going to get you out of pain.

Thanks for the info y'all. Seems like most people experienced the same or very similar results. I'm on Norco now (going on 10 years) and while it worked some in the beginning, it's pretty much losing its effect. I don't know if moving to Percocet would be any different?

Most ppl must be under 40 something to not recognize the name!! I'm a true believer in music soothing the soul and use music as a huge part of my distraction therapy so my 17 yr old has been exposed to all kinds of music in her life. I have never been more proud of her and more disheartened by our young ppl then when they were given an assignment to write an essay on a musician not of their decade and she wrote about Jim Morrison and not one of her classmates knew of whom she spoke and her English Teacher recognized the Doors but not the man or his legacy?? Then again she had a Mom who was actually alive when Woodstock happened not just wore a t-shirt about it!!

I'm on Butrans patch right now along with Tramadol. Tramadol was beginning to lose effectiveness at the highest dose. It's nice to have some constant pain relief for about 7 days. The Butrans patch does seem to lose its effectiveness pretty quickly. I get maybe 3 months of pain relief and need to move up to a higher dose. The 5 mcg and 10 mcg did not give me full relief from pain. Needed to take 100 mg. of a Tramadol with it every 6 hours.
