Why is it so hard to remember this thing? I was on this morning and again this afternoon and yet never had a thought about it being check-in day until Monday's almost over!! Yikes better late I guess.

Guys this is check-in supposedly on Monday and preferably earlier today? The place we drop in and say hi to all our new members,share your weekend fun or not and give us your rundown of the week ahead. Procedures,appointments,surgery,tests and if your in need of a few extra thoughts this is the place to ask.

Hope everyone has a great,low pain week and welcome to all who are here for your first Monday check-in!

Hi all!

I had a wonderful weekend. I am however, restless. Cabin fever for sure. Took a short walk but it was so windy I was being pushed down the street! Hope today is better.

Hello everyone,

I actually had a great weekend. I got to spend a lot of time with my wife after almost a month of rarely seeing her. We don't really ever fight or have problems at all even in almost 10 years together, but I think she is just frustrated with my condition. On Friday we met at a coffee shop and had lunch and a coffee together and we both had a great time together. Saturday we had a small birthday party for our 6 year old son at a bowling alley. I'm obviously not able to bowl, but had a great time watching my son and the rest of the kids in the family. Me and my wife also spent some time together and we are getting along great. Then on Sunday we spent some of the day together with our son and in the evening we went out to eat dinner. I'm feeling so happy that this is feeling like it could work out. I'm still in love with her and I can't imagine life without her.

Besides that, I had an EGD last week because of weight loss and problems swallowing. I've lost nearly 40 pounds in the last 5 or 6 weeks without trying to at all. I just can't eat much. I was diagnosed with acid reflux for the first time ever so I started a new medicine for that and I think it is starting to help a little. I was also told there is slight narrowing in my esophagus, so there will be another test soon to try and figure out what is causing the swallowing problems. Then soon I will be having another EUS/biopsy of the tumors in my pancreas to check their size again and hopefully get better lab results.

some happy stuff, nice guys. been running around, bloods, urine / ecg for rigid cycscosopy fri. ring up tomorrow to confirm. pain, same old. cpap, still getting there. did go out and do bloods and urine, sunny day, not a cloud in the sky, took the bus, shouted myself a coffee, head a beard trim, got some bread and came home. am tired, will lay down soon. getting 2 hours of sleep a night. better than none. am thinking of you all. have a good day.

Well now this is an awesome check in! Perhaps waiting til late is the trick? Glad everyone seems to be doing pretty good and I am ready for winter to be over too and I live in Florida!!

Still have shingles pain, but otherwise not doing too bad. Went out to eat in town with my wife and her friend at a real restaurant, not fast food. I'm also hoping winter will be over soon, and the weather will let us get out more.

Been kind of busy in a nice way here too...planning/finalising my first holiday since I got sick - parents are taking me over to Christchurch (New Zealand) for a week as a belated 30th birthday present - and I have a close friend over there who'll be having her 30th while I'm over there.

I used to be really outdoorsy and miss it greatly - but have even managed to find a guide who is willing to take me on a one-on-one sea kayaking trip to go wildlife spotting (dolphins, penguins, orcas, lots of other bird life) ... Should be awesome!

Finished my last exams today. So I am FINALLY done with the semester AND all my core academic courses! Yippee! Tomorrow I submit the official paperwork for my medical leave (although I'm already unofficially on leave). Besides being sick and in pain, I'm feeling really burnt out at the moment. So I'm looking forward to having some time off.

Next week starts my marathon of doctors appointments. Was originally supposed to see my new pain management specialist this week. But I had to reschedule because I have to stay up here an extra day so that I can get another rabies booster (joy). I had a routine rabies titer done this fall (required before we can enter clinics) and it came back as inadequate. And I've been putting off getting the booster for several months now because I didn't want to risk the chance that I might have a bad reaction to it/it would make me feel sicker than I already do (sometimes vaccines make me feel lousy for a few days afterwards). But now that I'm done with my exams, I really can't put it off anymore. So it's another booster for me. But at least the school pays for this one. Those darn things are so expensive -- around $500/shot (and the initial series is 3 shots)! Just hope it doesn't make me feel too lousy, because I still have a 5 hr drive ahead of me later this week. And that is hard enough as it is with the eyes and the fatigue!

I'm so jealous that you get to go to New Zealand! That is one place that I would love to visit. It is supposed to be absolutely beautiful! Hope you have a wonderful time!

Good luck with all the appointments Skeye - and congrats on finishing your exams.

NZ - I've wanted to go for years (especially as it's just "across the ditch" as we say) but this is the first time I've really been well enough to travel and be likely to enjoy it. I'll definitely find a way to share photos for you Vicki :)

Pretty good check-in!

Hey, Skeye, try Benadryl for a couple of days after the shot. I'm allergic to vaccines. It's the gelatin and preservatives. I learned what the problem was when I was getting flu vaccines many years ago. They told us back then it's just allergy. Take Benadryl. They don't tell you that nowadays.

I'm checking in after being in hospital again, twice. Thought it was sinus infection going to my lungs, felt too bad to stay home. Went home on antibiotics. Next evening, ER again. Tentative diagnosis was flu, but test showed parainfluenza - same symptoms, but no diarrhea. My throat was so sore I couldn't swallow saliva, got dehydrated. Not much treatment, IV fluids, but the best thing was Toradol.

Thanks for the suggestion, Alcie. Got my shot this morning, and so far I'm feeling okay (as "okay" as I normally feel, anyway). It is usually the day after that I start feeling lousy. But I'm hoping that I'll be fine.

edit: it's 3 am and my lovely vaccine reaction is starting to show itself. got a fever and a killer headache. think i'm going to try that benadryl now. if nothing else, maybe it will help me sleep.
