Has anyone else gotten shingles while taking mercaptopurine or immunosuppressants? The pain is awful. I can't imagine this lasting for weeks or months. I started on the antiviral medication after three days and went back to the doctor due to the pain and she gave me neurotin which is helping somewhat. I have at least stopped using ice packs. It hurts a lot to sit so you can imagine where they developed. This is the second time I have gotten them. I was not taking mercaptopurine when I got them the first time (17 years ago) and got antiviral medication within 24 hours so it was not so bad. The nurse said I was too young to have shingles - I am 45. I told her I had the first round at 28 and she was really surprised.

No problem. We actually get many with shingles due to the pain that comes with it. Hoping your getting better.

I just got shingles and I can't believe how much it hurts. I got the anti viral,gabepentin..and also something for the pain(morphine). I can't believe that a doctor would not prescribe a pain medication for you. I would not be able to get through my day without it. Good luck to u.
