Unfortunately I got into a car accident yesterday. It wasn't with another car though. I managed to hydroplane dead on into a pole. I'm ok though. I smacked my head on the steering wheel. Have 2 small cuts on my forehead and a minor concussion. Also my neck and shoulders are killing me. I did go to the er afterwards, and they did a Catscan of my head and neck . They didn't see anything except some disc bulging in my neck, they said that may not have been caused by the accident. I'm pretty sure it wasn't and it's been that way for quite awhile.
I don't know how bad the car is. I didn't get out of it until the paramedics got there and then I still didn't get a look at it. I have the name of where they had it towed to though, so i wanna go take a look at it later. I didn't get home until late so I didn't get a chance to call the insurance company yet. So I have to do that today.

Oh Wow! So sorry to hear it! Glad you just got a bump on the noggin! Cars can be replaced, people cannot! I hope you don't have too much pain. Exasperation of an existing condition can be just as bad as a new injury!

If you can handle ice packs they will be your best friend right now. Yes, its impossible for drs to say whether accidents cause the disc problems because we can have bulging disc & even herniations & not even know they are there until there is some type of trauma. Hopefully things will settle down with your neck & shoulders pretty quick. I hope you have a good muscle relaxer on hand, that would sure help with the neck & shoulders too.
Take care.

Oh my Goodness! I am so sorry that you had to experience that. Minor concussions are still a worry, be careful with that. I am sorry that you are in pain and having to deal with the ramifications of the accident. Hopefully after you get all the specifics taken care of you can get some rest.

Be sure to take one or the other, the Flexeril may sedate you somewhat, that seems to be the main complaint about
it. It just makes me sick at my stomach. I have been on Baclofen several years niw & have no problems with it. Expect the pain to increase over the next few days & don't be surprised to start seeing bruises appear. The last accident I was in, I got hit in the chest by the air bag & every morning when I showered more bruises appeared for about
a week.

Yeah. I've taken the flexeril before, it knocks me out. I think I'm gonna try the baclofen first, if that doesn't work then maybe try the flexeril. I am expecting a huge bruise on my forehead where I hit it. I bruise easily so it won't be pretty.

You may not know if anything is wrong for a couple of days. Pain, stiffness, bruising, etc. all get worse second day. Don't be afraid to go back to the ER or call your PCP or pain doc if you get new or worsening symptoms.
Hopefully your auto insurance pays your medical bills. That way there's no deductible or co-pay. I was really glad I carried a fairly high amount when I had my bad wreck.
Maybe taking something that puts you out is a good idea for a few days. Might as well sleep instead of hurting.

Oh goodness....you were wise to wait for the paramedics instead of just moseying out to check on the car. Oh my gosh, can you imagine--and I know lots of folks do!
I'll keep you in my thoughts. Hopefully you're resting with a person checking on you throughout the night. Concussions can be nasty things.
Mostly I'll just echo what the others have said and I'll be hopeful that the damage to you is minimal. Cars can be replaced.

I too and sorry for your accident. Thanks above for sparing you any serious injuries. Take this time to relax, take your meds and heal from this. Be careful not to overdue yourself, give your body to mend.
Sending healing thoughts your way!
Hugs from Texas,
Pam

Sorry to hear about
your car but glad you were not more seriously injured. Just have someone checking on you occasionally for anything out of the ordinary due to the head injury and avoid the flexeril for a few days if it is sedating to you so that something more serious won't be missed with the head injury. Like Susie says ice is your friend right now and keep us updated.

So very sorry this happened to you and glad you will get better.
You need to call your pm doctor and tell them you were in a car accident and prescribed meds at the hospital or you might get into trouble with you pm doctor, its in the pm contracts ...so make the call and maybe get into your pm doctor to get seen...you should also give them a copy of these scans that the er did...
Take it easy for a few days and I hope your doing better soon...rest up and take care of yourself today!
Many well wishes and healing hugs...

Good advice/recommendations already=) I'm sending you my thoughts and prayers as you rest up and heal. I'm sure the soreness and stiffness has intensified, before you find relief. Please take it easy!

Thanks everyone. I'm hanging in there. My head is killing me and doesn't like being upright for long. Also neck and shoulders are very tight and sore. I am taking the baclofen which seems to help some.
