You might have to revisit the pain meds. At least a little bit.
You could end up hurting yourself worse by not getting some sort of pain relief on board. With the help of meds it might be easier to regain some function and ability.
If you do a taper correctly, any withdrawls you do have should be manageable; if you do decide to restart meds.
I was absolutely adamant about NOT being on pain meds. And in my stubbornness, spent 6 months of my life pretty much couch ridden, in tears and agony. Losing muscle mass, hope, motivation, and neglecting my relationships, school, and myself.
And then I realized how utterly ridiculous that was, because its not the pain meds themselves that are bad; it's the misuse/abuse by individual PEOPLE that can be bad. Used in the right way at the right dose, they're a tool, just like any other.
Just something to think about if the pain is so severe its actually hindering your recovery and playing a big part in your daily life.
