Hi Susie and Vickie
Thanks so much for listening and the helpful replies.
Yes after many visits to this doctor i can see her agenda is to take me off meds and she has even mentioned she would like me off them in a year. Ive said my arguments rationally about why i do not want to change at the moment because they work, i can now lead a more active life and do some normal things and can go to work and dont want to go back to the level of pain i was in before i was put on them. Ive also managed to slightly reduce my meds and also mentioned i have not increased the dose in five years nor do i want to. Other doctors ive seen have thought this was a good thing and understood but she is concentrating on longterm effects not how my quality of life is now. They have also believed me when i said i dont get side effects any more or hardly at all but i dont think she does. The PM doc will know that it is possible to not have any or have minimal side effects. Yes its true someone saying that about addiction shouldnt be treating CP.
Im trying to see the Pm visit as a positive thing. The first one i saw was amazing and told me not to worry if one med doesnt work then they will find something even if it takes a while. The second was just interested in taking me off meds and very dismissive. I hope this one will be reasonable. Think i will go to another doctor in meantime anyway as i have to go about something else so will ask just what his opinion is. My gut is telling me to try someone else. I remember when i was first going through this i had a nice GP who wouldnt give meds until it was the last resort and one day by chance i saw another doctor as i was in unbearable pain and he immediately gave me meds. So i guess some have a firm idea in their minds about what can be done and wont budge. Like you say most have not educated themselves re CP. I have a reccommendation from a friend of a nice GP at the same surgery so will try him.
Vickie, thanks for the advice. I do a lot of other things to help the pain so dont just rely on meds. Hot water bottles and baths (heat) help most, also gentle exercise when i can manage it, raspberry leaf tea, relaxation methods etc. Ill def mention that to the specialist and ask for more tips. Im just doubtful they will help alone.
Thanks again and take care. Di
