We have been having such terrible storms here in north central Texas the last few weeks. Granted we have been in a drought & this rain is needed. Lakes are beginning to refill & get normal again. Many folks were mowing grass where they use to sit in the water in their boats.

However, the tornadoes are now making their way & we had one 100 miles west of us with 1 fatality so far. They say the storm cell is headed our way. Super cell storms with baseball size hail 60-70 mph straight line winds. Thursday night we were hit by lightening apparently, it knocked out the satellite & the internet. They came out last night & replaced the two wire box that was less than 2 months old & replaced wiring in the box outside. Friday afternoon there was a tornado 35 miles north of us, a lot of damage.

Friday Oklahoma had 50 tornadoes in their state. My sister lives in Okla. City & they had flooding on her end of town.

I am ready for this mess to end for everyone.

I agree!! It's quiet here in Arlington/mansfield now but it's coming this direction. We drove by our local lake today and saw that its full. Just a few months ago we walked way out into it on dry land.

I have been worried about my daughter and granddaughter as you know they're a hop and skip from you and she's been keeping me updated as she can. She uses cell phone and internet only and evidently those are sketchy at best. I also have lots of Ok family and have been checking on them.

Hopefully this will be over soon for you guys and your drought will be better but if Texas is like Florida when it rains that much that fast it usually causes worse flooding since it can't soak in fast enough and runs off. Speaking of which Florida will be going into hurricane season June 1st but there seems to be a tropical storm that didn't pay attention to the date!!

Vickie, in all my years in Tx I have never seen this much rain for so long. I have lost track of how many days straight its been raining here. Two weeks ago 2 doors down from me a neighbors house got flooded. Her house sits up off the ground quite a bit & it managed to get in her house & did a lot of damage. How this happened is her next door neighbor has a couple of dogs & to prevent them from digging out under the fence he took a piece of 12 inch metal & put it at the bottom of the fence. When we had that bad storm that night the water could not drain off like normal & you see what happened. From my house on down towards hers is downhill & when you have that much rain it just normally runs through the very back of the yards on the fence line. We do not live in a flood plain, so her home owners insurance will not pay for the damage. I told her SIL to check with an atty to see if they could go against the neighbor since he caused the problem.

When I finally crashed last night it was storming & woke up to yet more rain this morning ugh.

These bad storms that are causing so much damage are coming from the west which is really bad when they come from that direction. They are drought stricken out west of us, its always been that way. The other day in a couple of hours they maxed out their rain amount in a couple of hours for what they normally get in one year, massive flooding there that day.

I run out every morning & drain my pool down if its not lightening, lol. I have an overflow on it but I do not ever rely on that, with that much water I don't see how the pump can filter the water very well.

I think Abilene & I are going to have web feet if this doesn't stop soon.

Houston is having quite a wind storm with some scattered rains...We are supposed to be in San Antonio next weekend...Hope its nice weather.

Well, the midwest is getting their share of storms, too. Nothing quite as dramatic as Texas....yet... The week is just started. LOL. And we've already had a good dousing. Stay safe everybody!!

Susie my daughter called yesterday to tell me my mother's day card would be late because she had to go to post office due to weight and she won't drive in the rain!! Lol. She said it wasn't stopping long enough to get the baby to the car and get out of the driveway. She's also taking a few online courses for her degree and said Wi-Fi connection has been so bad she's behind. She spent a good deal of her young years in the tri-state corner of Ok,Missouri and Kansas so she's tornado savvy but she does not like electrical storms and she said that is what you all are seeing a lot of. Here in Florida we're are getting that heat pushed at us from the west and seeing above average temps and humidity,95 here yesterday. Hurricane season officially starts the first of june but your all's storms are pushing heat out and causing some tropical storms out there. The weather this year looks like it's going to be a rough ride on every corner. My friend in Colorado posted a pic I believe Friday of snow there and 27 degrees. They have been in the 70s.

Vickie, I know its crazy Colorado getting hit with snow. After finally getting internet & tv back we could actually see the havoc all of this water is creating. Sunday of course it was storming & we watched the rescues being done by helicopter, water to the roofs of pickups & people being lifted off of the tops, its just crazy. I am like your daughter, I have lived in Okla & Ks which there was tornadoes in those places, but the lightening is the one that shakes me up. Now that gets my attention big time. When I lived in Kansas we lived in a mobile home & the tornadoes were really bad one year & one came through & nearly wiped out the town. I lived out at the edge of town & there was a mobile home across the hwy from me that was literally picked up & moved & sat back down. It was sitting on the outside of the fence that was once was all the way around it. It apparently did not have tie downs which ours did. That was the strangest thing I have ever seen but when I went into town it looked like a war zone. I have seen that type of devastation twice in my life & hope to never see it again.

upstate new york will be going down 20 degrees tomorrow. it has been hot but we had a REALLY FIERCE winter so i will not complain too much.

Wow! I had no idea that all that was going on. Hope everyone down south stays safe!! Tornados are very scary! We don't have them up here too often -- usually only once a year, if that. And they are usually pretty small and localized (although still big enough to cause moderate damage to that area). But still, every time I hear the tornado warning on the tv or radio, it terrifies me! I can't imagine living somewhere where they are pretty frequent!

We could definitely use the rain up here in southern New England, though! It has not rained in several weeks, and we have had a lot of fire warnings recently. Very uncommon for this area this time of year. Doesn't help that it literally went from still being winter (highs in the 30's and 40's and still snowing on and off) to summer (highs in the mid 80's) all of a sudden about two weeks ago. We pretty much skipped spring completely, temperature wise. Vegetation wise, though, we are about a month behind of where we should be, thanks to the harsh winter and prolonged cold. Although I have a feeling that things will come to life if we were to get some rain. I must admit, though, I didn't miss all the pollen that we are now just starting to see...

Always amazes me how different parts of the country can see such drastically different weather patterns. Hope everyone stays safe!

You know what amazes me more than the weather is how ppl don't pay heed to mother nature's wrath an its warnings in different parts of the country! ! If I were to visit say Kansas I would certainly be in tune to their weather warnings because I lived in that area, know how fast a tornado or excessive high winds can crop up and absolutely wipe out everything. My daughter mentioned this yesterday about Texas and how many ppl were getting stranded or hurt driving through flooded area's. Here in Florida we have colored flags at all the beach entrances warning folks about what's going on in that water which by the way you may or may not ever see but you better believe the ppl who put those warnings up have. People pay absolutely no attention to the warning. We have been under a high dangerous rip current down the coast approximately 18 miles from Daytona to about Vero for four days yet there have been endless water rescues all weekend? Some kids swimming, some small water craft, but far too many for the warnings being up. Its like going to kansas during tornado season and taking a tent! !! You can't see those rip current but you darn sure will know if your caught in one if your lucky enough that a lifeguard will risk his life to save you and they're not suppose to take those chances by the way.

If the flags say dangerous marine animals close to shoreline they're not talking about sand fleas they're talking jellyfish, sharks, and other various creatures whose habitat your invading so why would you put your 7 year old in a tube in the water and go to sleep on the beach? ?

Know what those warnings mean, think about them and they clearly tell you when its safe to swim an when it's not. When the life guard blows that horn for everyone to get out of the water and it takes half a hour to get everyone to follow direction it could be too late because sometimes those warnings are about a shark spotted in the swimming area and those are not the little 3-4 foot ones you see in the tank at seaworld but likely big as the vehicle your driving. Manatees are not aggressive by nature but respect the fact they weightons and sswimming with them is extremely dangerous simply by the pull of the water when they dive can pull you to the ocean floor drowning you.

Mother nature and her creations are beautiful, fun and recreational but you have to respect the warnings and the people who live in the area's for their ability and knowledge in how to live side by side safely.

I have never seen or been in a flood and hope I never am, I'm not a strong swimmer and that alone keeps me in the wading water of the ocean I live on an love. Respect for my limitations and Mother nature.

I am deathly afraid of fires so I have never had a desire to visit the dry west during drought season, Susie you will appreciate this. Lived in a manufactured home in Galena Kansas and one storm I recall the walls actually breathing, rather like a breathe, in and out! ! Scariest thing I have ever seen and yes I got out and went to a shelter! !


Just saw a weather report that says we have storms moving in this afternoon so maybe they're finally moving on Texas? ?

what can you do?

i think people get used to the dangers around them but it is important to be aware of stuff.

I have had it, its storming again today, thunder & lightening. Monday I believe was our only day of no rain since I cannot remember when. I just do not know where all of this water is going. We are well past saturated that's for sure. This just blows me mind as I have never seen this much water here ever.

Vickie, I had to laugh reading about the beach morons, even though like you said it is very serious & could be very dangerous for someone. Here even with warnings & roads closed & being reported on tv & radio the idiots still get in their vehicles & drive in the high water to see if it really is high water I guess. They should not be air lifting people off the tops of their pickups because some idiot wanted to see for their self!!! They should send these people a huge bill for their services.

The house next door to me caught fire several years ago & it scared us to death. It was on tv & radio. I get a call at work from my son that our neighbor called him thinking it was our house on fire. I don't even remember leaving work that day, let alone driving home. What I do remember is not being allowed on my street with my car & having to run a full block to get to my house. One of the fire trucks was in front of my house so I knew it was my house on fire. I was scared for my dog in the back yard. I didn't care about the house we could build of buy another one of those.

My neighbor has keys to get into the gates & house so he took care of Willie for us. We keep our boat on that side of the house & there it sat with nearly 60 gallons of gas in it!! This same neighbor got the water hose & kept the boat watered down because of sparks flying everywhere & he knew it was always full of gas & could have easily just blown up. Now that is a true neighbor to have done everything he did that day. Very rare to have a neighbor like that anymore. And yes, he is still our neighbor, they were a young couple when they moved in, their oldest graduates this month.

The cause of this fire was because the moron that lived there did not believe in watering his yard & he never trimmed his yard, mowed only. There was broken glass on the ground in the far corner of the yard with the hot sun beating down on it, dry weeds, it was nothing but a tinder trap. Winds were blowing out of south & blew the fire right to his house. The house on the other side of him sustained some damage too. This could have been avoided altogether. The fire marshal told me this.

Over the past 5-7 years it seems as if the weather has changed across the country. We are seeing things happen here that did not years prior. I have family that live in other states & they say the same thing.

Abilene, I don't know about you but I am going to check & see if I have web feet, lol.

Next wave of rain ic coming, work is letting husband and other employees leave at 3 pm today because of the next wave of storms...we could very well be housebound on Thursday due to street flooding...now its getting scary...fingers crossed we don't flood...

Well we didn't get any predicted rain and we could sure use some! ! Several fires starting up with the humidity and 90s heat going on for over a week. Its funny because it will cloud up a bit, thunder a time or two and next time you look out its clear skies and still in the 90s and not one drop fell. Like it's teasing us.

It looks like if we could just turn the world a hair that would bring the winds of Texas pushing the rain to Florida which would push the warmer dry air up to the New England coast and all that would solve the weather issues right? ? Lol

I don't know but it is certainly different weather for every state then what they're use to seeing.

See Susie that's what I am talking about. Its a drought, no rain for months, your yards a inferno waiting to happen and you can't be bothered to turn on a hose once a day? I got to tell you when we start to burn here there's nothing funny about it! !! Wildlife dies, homes are lost along with lives and most of the fires could have been prevented with a little common sense.

One of the strangest changes I encountered moving from KY to Fl was in KY when it occasionally got dry and a bit dangerous the first thing they do is start rationing water, can't water your yard just got to pray it don't catch fire. They'll fine you if they catch you watering anything outside, washing a car or filling a pool. Get to Florida an man they got sprinklers everywhere watering hours at night and hours in day. Every house almost, all stores and even highway medians have inground sprinklers. Water everywhere and retention ponds every few blocks but it's the stinkiest water you can imagine! ! It's not city water but recycled waste water? Smells like straight up sulfur so you can imagine what a entire block of sprinklers coming on smells like but it works to keep everything moist so why doesn't every state do what Florida does?

Weather saying now we will see no rain for another few days but then have a chance of rain every day for a week. Well we will see but I won't count on it and will water my yard this morning! !
