I had my third, yes third total hip replacement surgery in Jan 2015. I have AVN is the reason for the surgery. My left one had to have a revision because ir was not done correctly the first time and I lived through 4 years of horrible pain. I thought after having the revision urgency the pain would be gone. It is not, if anything it is worse. The surgeon says everything with my implant is correct and nothing is wrong, but I have such horrible pain with both hips. The pain is so bad I can hardly rand it any longer. I am on MS Contin, Neurontin, and Hydrocodone and pain is still not managed. I cannot sit, or stand and now even hurts when I sleep. I have been in pain management for years. Does anyone else have this problem, and does anyone have any suggestions. I cannot take this any longere. Thank you Isbella

Welcome Isbella to the CP forum at HW. Sorry you've had such issues but as a three time knee replacement I know what failed procedures are like especially when we have high expectations for success! I know have broken hardware and absolutely refuse to give them another shot at getting it correct.

As to the pain issues I can only guess and through ideas at you but here are my thoughts. One is some people's bodies just never accept the foreign objects that are now present so it reacts with pain and or swelling and inflammation, two of its defenses against those foreign objects. The other is maybe it's not the hips causing the pain at all. Lumbar spine issues directly effect the hips and may be the only pain someone with a spinal issue at that level may experience. Have you had a recent MRI or any type spinal scan?

Its not much but the two things that jumped out at me reading your post. Others may have other ideas and I am sure will share those with you.

I can't remember which news channel I saw it on, but they did a story about people that have 'allergic reactions' to implants. The one symptom...pain, worsening pain. Might want to google it and see what comes up, try allergies to medical implants, or something like that.

I had THR last November and I still feel pain...I can't take walks with my kids or do lots of stuff I was hoping to do once I got anew hip. I've only had one, and couldn't imagine going through it another time, or 2 more...it sucks we still have to endure this after things are supposed to be better. I keep telling myself that it takes along time to heal such a big operation and it took alot out of me to heal with having to take care of my four children on top of it all. I had help in the beginning, but only for a little while and it's still a struggle to keep up with them... I hope your hips feel better and you get the pain relief u deserve...
