Hi all,
Haven't posted in a while, but really needed to get some input on this. I've been on Pain Management for a long time, and I have several conditions which are not curable and barely even treatable. When I moved last year I found an amazing PM doctor and I have been really happy with him for numerous reasons. His office was great, I loved the PAs and other Drs. He listened and treated my pain well, and even diagnosed my back problems (not my primary issue).
Unfortunately a few months ago he changed everything. He expanded his practice and got a new office manager, so now getting appts etc is just horrible. But worst of all, he went to some conference and now decided that all pain meds are evil and is taking all of his patients off of them. He flat out said, regardless if you are in pain or your quality of life deteriorates I am taking you off them. How does a PAIN MGMT doctor make a decision like that overnight? I just don't get it.
I am so disappointed and upset. He is doing it slowly, thank goodness, but obviously now I have to find a new doctor. My question is, can I go to other doctors while I am still seeing him and tell them I want a second opinion? I want to make sure I find one I'm happy with, and once I do, I will switch completely and not go back to see my old doctor. I'm just nervous about it, I don't want them to think I'm doctor shopping or something! Anyone been through this process before?
Thanks!
Louise
