Doc told me no more meds?>

The Pain Center isn't giving you meds. How are they a pain center.
My PCP only writes Norco but he's not going to let another Doctor tell him how to treat me.

I would have an issue with a Doctor that did that.

That's why I'm in Pain management. My PCP isn't comfortable writing the amount of pain meds that I require.

Are your Doctor and pain center connected somehow.

That sucks on so many levels.. I've never heard of a pain center like that. My PCP isn't connected to anyone. There are maybe 5 pain managements in the town I live. He has to refer me to them.

They don't communicate with anyone but the DEA. Pain management centers are very secretive.

If that is written in stone with them and you don't agree you need to find a new Doctor and get a referral to Pain Management.

Edit :I had to come off of 14 months of 180 mg of Morphine a day and 1 month of Dilaudid this past January because of being released from a PMD for marijuana. 2 weeks after a knee replacement. I switched to Norco but still went through horrible withdrawals.

M&G she is with a group called Kaiser, its a private insurance not Medicaid. PCP if I remember correctly referred her to PM, & after a bit I believe they cut off the meds after stating several times they were going to stop them. So PCP picked up writing meds again. With this Kaiser outfit she can only see drs in that group unless she went as a cash patient elsewhere.

Kaiser is still around here in Tx.

Have you asked the pain management doctor what EXACTLY is the treatment plan? WHY they want you off of the pain meds? After all, they may be trying to determine exactly what your condition is and may feel the meds are masking some of the 'true' answers. What exactly is the plan to detox you? Will it be medically managed? How will they treat the withdrawal? These are the questions to ask.

Here in NJ, most pain management doctors have the patient sign a contract that they will not have any other doctor or facility write them ANY pain meds without discussing it with the PM doc.

I've had a couple of times before being in PM where I've had to go to the ER and was given pain meds. I would call my regular doctors office the next day and tell them what had been prescribed by the ER and even take the bottle with me when I saw the doctor for follow up. Now there are contracts that may or may not allow for that. Too many that had become addicted would use several doctors and hospitals to prescribe for them and now the rest of us are 'paying' for that behavior.

Have that conversation with your PM. They should be telling you what their reasons are and what your treatment plan is.

BG, last Sept you had posted the PM dr wanted you to wean off of oxycodone over a 7 week period & that they were not willing to rx anything else. Instead they wanted you doing hydrotherapy & PT & some other things. That is what I was referring to.

I am in agreement with PM, if your GP caves in to the pressure by these other drs, & stops writing pain meds, it would show what your base line is. At this point they really don't know what it is. Sad but true we often do have to prove our case.

LAST FALL: they did want me to wean, i did the stretch program and the hydrotherapy they suggested but i am still having a lot of pain and flares, also a lot of other health issues. I have not weaned off of anything, i am still at a small dose of a ER medication to help me get thru work and try to function. In Feb i went to them for a check up and said i am not ready to wean and explained ALL THE OTHER crazy stuff that has happened in my health and that i have been really sick from alot of other things. She told me to come back when i am ready to wean off, i had planned on summer but i am not sure i can do it at all anymore, i am so upset about all of it.

I know alot of yall are older and wiser than me.

They are trying through:
1-stretching program
2-swimming program

that i will be in less pain i have deg disk, siatica,fibro,myofacial pain syndrome, ect that they are treating i also have hip and pelvic pain too from female stuff.

they think that through the treatments that i will magically feel better: i do feel a bit more flexible and stronger in my core which helps my back to support it but i am still having alot of issues.

StopthePain123:: I agree it makes me sick, the "war on drugs" is bad too, it makes me feel dirty when i go to the doctor. Its like our society making us feel shame and dirty for enjoying sex. sorry to go there but it is the same kinda shameful feeling.

Your post is well said - concise and to the point.

The newly released National Strategy on Pain will make access to pain management more difficult for those who legitimately need it.

Case in point: I have to travel to my MDs' office to pick up narcotic prescriptions, wherein in the past certain classes of narcotics were able to be received by the pharmacy via fax or telephone from my MDs office.

I am on palliative care. Getting "out-and-about" is effort some. I would rather use my limited energy and mobility on an activity more enjoyable than driving to my MDs office. (Note: My MD does now provide two months prescriptions, pre-dated, to minimize back and forth travel).

I was reading everyone's posts about the pains everyone has, and I just switched drs because I have moved an hour and a half away from the Dr I've been seeing for years. The one I am going to continued my pain meds at oxycodone 10/325 twice a day, but my pain is getting so much worse everyday. I have been in several car accidents, surgeries and have a lot of pain. I want to ask the Dr to up my medication, but I'm afraid he will think I'm a drug seeker and that's just not the case. I am 51 years old and I am in serious pain. I have knee problems and have nerve damage in my shoulder. I try to stay active, but it's getting harder and harder every single day. What do I do? Thanks!
