Just another one of my condititions that seems to flare up when my body gets stressed. The thing I hate the most about IC is what I call the snowball effect. A bad flare up starts from either eating the wrong thing and/or stress...which causes pain...which causes more stress, etc. and there you are! It goes on and on. I'd love to hear from anyone else who suffers from this. How do you get out of the IC tailspin?

Does your MD provide you with a short course of glucocorticosteroid when you have an interstitial cystitis flare - prednisone or dexamethasone or other? A steroid would help contain the inflammation and pain.

Of course, steroids have significant side-effects that need to be weighted vs. the benefits hoped to be gained.

That you have tapped out the maximal allowable course of epidural steroid injections for your SI joints may negate any other systemic use for the short-term for 3-4 more months.

Use of concentrated cranberry (in tablets) does aide reducing the bladder pain by lowering the urine's PH level, making the urine less acidic and more alkaline. You can purchase cranberry tablets from any holistic grocery store (Whole Foods) or holistic pharmacy (Pharmaca).

Your ongoing SI joint pain alone should entitle you to receive a "Get Out of Jail Free" card from the game of Monopoly from having any additive painful illness. Enough is enough.

We live in a small town of about 270 people in NW Iowa. We have a part time nurse practitioner. She is a nice enough gal, actually graduated high school with one of my daughters. She just got her degree and so doesn't have a lot of experience. Along with a medrol pack she usually just gives me Valium or something similar to knock me out for a day or so....this gives my urinary track a chance to calm down. I've been able to manage my IC pretty well by avoiding stress and by following the 'foods to avoid' list. I guess I feel fortunate as in my reading about IC online I have came across articles by folks with much more severe cases than mine. But my SI joint situation has been tough lately which doesn't help.

Reading the bottom of your posts sounds like you have lots more going on than I do. It takes someone who is suffering themself to truly empathize with someone else's pain. Thanks for your caring remarks. I hope you are getting along O.K. Mary R.
