Hello bethiestuff & welcome to the chronic pain forum. Yes, it has been some time since we have had anyone current post on back surgery. I take it as a good sign & hope people are out living their lives after surgery. A majority of the prior threads were from people that did not have the outcome they had hoped for.
At the top of this page is a sticky titled CP101. If you will scroll down that thread there are tips from members that had cervical surgery, however, there my be some tips in there that will help you.
You know no one wants to have surgery of any kind, but I think a person knows when it is time. Once you get to that point & like you said, you are comfortable with your decision. That is a big hurdle to get over & being ok with the decision is a good thing. Do you have your surgery scheduled yet? The main thing to do is follow your post op instructions to the letter & you should do well. Once you are home take your pain meds on a schedule for a bit. Keeping the post op pain at bay as much as possible is a great help.
I do hope that you will have someone at home to help you out for a bit. Having foods that are easy to heat & eat. Have plenty of bottled water on hand, anything that will help make your recovery as easy as possible.
I am so sorry to read about your brother's cancer dx. I think the PC forum here has the best group of knowledgeable members & the most compassionate. I cannot say enough good things about that forum. I hope things are on tract with your brother.
Keep us posted on how you are doing. Take care.
