Yes, I had mine removed after 8 years. Mine had to be done inpatient due to a massive infection that had spread the entire length of the tract (that doctors denied existed for 7.5 of those years until I practically had one foot in the grave).
I do have scar tissue, but the doctor was able to remove it without issue. He went in through the original incisions & just made them a tiny bit longer.
The healing time was nominal. I had probably 3 days where I couldn't do much of anything (again, possibly due to the infection) and then it was 2 weeks until I could get the drains & stitches out. Honestly, though, the pain from the removal really wasn't bad. The implant was a long recovery for me -- 6 weeks off of work, another 2 where I worked part-time. The explant was no problem.
