Shoulder pain with a normal MRI

I hurt my right shoulder at work 2 months ago. I was lifting something about 60lbs from about my knee hight and as i was setting it on a stack about chest hight felt a sharp pain from my shoulder into my neck and down my right arm. I have been doing occupational therapy twice a week and pain actually seems to be worse. Just had an MRI and it came back normal. Any suggestions on what i should do next and any questions i should ask at my next orthopedic visit

Hi Sandie & welcome to the forum. My first thought is since you mentioned some neck pain initially, it is possible you have something going on with your neck causing the shoulder & arm pain. This is not uncommon at all, it's called referred pain. I do hope this was documented in your medical records when you were seen initially. I would discuss the neck pain with the ortho & you can tell him/her that the shoulder & arm pain has been more pressing. WC may kick up their heels bringing in the neck 2 months later, but as long as it was documented the should authorize testing of your neck.

Sorry to hear about the pain. I also know that dealing with work comp is another pain that is difficult. Just an idea. My wife had a painful shoulder that continued for some time and got to the point she could barely lift her arm. They diagnosed her with a frozen shoulder and then received treatment for that. It was a painful recovery. I had never heard of it until she was diagnosed. I would encourage you to not let this go and continue pushing to find an answer regardless what the issue may be. My work com has learned that I am going to fight for my care and we have had some battles.

Try to get a neck MRI. My shoulder pain is from deteriorating cervical spinal cord. It's taken me years to figure it out, and it's so bad now that it may be not able to be repaired.

Look up where the nerves to the shoulder and arm and hand come from.
