alwayshurtin,
I am not sure of your exact situation regarding the RF procedure, I do know about that. What I know about RF is that it is related to relieving nerve pain. My facet joints are twisted and are always pushing on my nerves causing constant pain. This is why my pain Dr. recommended the RF procedure. First I had test block shots done, they last for around 24 hours and you have to score your pain to see if it is decreased during this time. You are awake for this procedure, you are given relaxation medication, but you have to be awake to communicate with the Dr. to make sure he is working in the correct area. If you benefit from the blocks, then they will set up the RF procedure. You will also be awake for it, with relaxation meds, both take around an hour or so, maybe less depending on the amount of nerves they are doing. After the blocks it is quite painfull at the injection site, but will only hurt for 2-4 days or so. The RF surgery itself, where the nerves are actually "zapped" takes 6-8 weeks before you feel relief. You want to make sure that the doctor treating you with meds understands you will still need them for that length of time. If all goes well then you may not need pain meds after the recovery is over, or little compared to previously, your pain should be decreased after recovery is over. Make sure you have atleast 2-ice packs available for after the blocks and surgery, trust me they will be your best friends. Good luck to you I hope this helps.
Take care,
