suboxone therapy

I am about to start on suboxone. can anyone who has been taking it for at least 3 months tell me what it is like. how does it make you feel? is the feeling similar to methadone?

I am switching from methadone to suboxone. I have heard it is best to stop the methadone for 48 -72 hours before taking the first dose of suboxone, therefore, I will be in a mild-moderate state of withdrawl and will best tell me if the suboxone will make me feel better.

I was on suboxone for about a year and it helped me to transition from 240mg plus of oxycontin a day to just suboxone. It does help to relieve the horrible withdrawel symtoms from oxy and is a pretty good pain reliever as well. ALTHOUGH IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND UNLESS YOU HAVE INSURANCE YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT. I am a chronic pain sufferer of many years who has gone off narcotic pain meds now completely for over a year. It was a long hard road, I still suffer from chronic pain but would never want to be dependant on pain killers again. After a year on suboxone I weaned myself off and take no prescription pain meds.

I just started my suboxone day 2- 8 mg. I was taking 8-10 vics or pers a day - just not to go through WD's. Finally hit bottom and got myself in touch w/ a suboxone dr. Its amazing but has ANYONE felt kinda groggy on this medicine and soooooo thirsty, + its making this very casual smoker into a chronic smoker. Its a scary thing to end the days of pills and getting that awesome buzz, but its a prision sentence. So anyway just wondering what side effects ppl have gone through on this.

I would like to know how bad the withdrawal is, coming off of the Suboxone.  Is it similar to that of other narcotic medications, like oxycontin or oxycodone?  Or is it a protracted withdrawal of several weeks?  If so, how bad is it on a scale of 1-10?   How hard was it for you, coming off of the Suboxone in comparison with other narcotic meds you had been on over the years  (include the 1-10 scale)?

I so appreciate your input, as I have been on oxycodone for 6 years now.  Presently, I am averaging 240 mg. per day, or, eight of the 40 mg. pills per day.  This ads up to approx. 240 pills per month.  I am considering switching over to the Suboxone, but am wondering if it is roughly as effective as the Oxycodone (which totally takes the edge off the pain for me, but has the very bad side effect of drowsiness throughout the day, resulting in way too much napping, and thus loss of quality time). 

Too, I don't want to switch over to another pain medication and come to find out it is nearly impossible to come off of it.  For exampe, I hear that Methadone is one of the most, if not the most difficult narcotic med to come off of.

The withdrawal is, coming off of the Suboxone or Subutex is very slight the Doc
will slowly bring your dose down over a long time months and then you might have to take very little ie : for maintance 2 mg .......

My friend I was on 40mg/daily of methadone for ten yrs and was told to take 8mg suboxone 24hrs after last metadone dose. I was in the worst withdraw in 10 minutes. Dr did not know what he was doing. I relapsed for 6wks before getting on suboxone. My advice is to start at the usual 8mg. and dont go higher unless necessary. most people are given 2 or 3 8mg tabs. If u liked methadone feeling you wont like suboxone. I felt absolutely no type or hint of a buzz whereas w/ methadone I at least felt a little something. Reason is meth is all synthetic opiate whereas suboxone is 3 parts Naloxone and 1 part opiate. Also if u need pain meds for an injury your screwed. because the dose has to be very high or a strong narcotic and if u have addiction u get looked down on by hospitals and drs. Dont kknow but u might want to taper off meth cause they have to slowly decrease your meth while slowly increasing suboxone. Methadone is also much better at blocking cravings. Now I have seen people w/little or no tolerance get nodding off suboxone but not often!! Good luck
