TENS unit?

When I was going to PT, the guy there said he *thought* they  might pay for it as long as the doctor gives you an RX for it. But you might want to check with your Pain doctor.

Insurance did not cover mine, but medicare I'm not sure about, sorry. It does help and I like mine a lot.........Good Luck to you, is there any way you could call medicare to find out if it is covered?

I was suppose to go talk to someone about the tens unit on Monday Oct 8th, but I've decided to wait until the doctor at least tells me what my new MRI on my lower back shows. Before she starts a plan, I would like to know what we are dealing with. I'm not sure if I should try pt again or not, it didn't do alot the first time around but that was 3 years ago.

Do you know if the tens unit helps with sciatica? There is just so much I'm dealing with here, it's the migraines, the bone spur in my neck, and the protruding disc in L4/L5 along with a disc dengeration.

I have been walking 2 miles a day, that's all the exercise I can do and then I pay for that afterwards also with the pain. I just don't want to stop all exercise, at least the walking helps with stress.

i love my tens unit- it really helps a lot with tension and muscle spasms. i have regular insurance, but i was told by the rep for the tens unit that if for some reason my insurance wouldn't pick up the tab they would let me pay monthly and give me a discount. my insurance did wind up picking it up. i love it- it's fantastic! good luck! i have nerve damage and bulging discs in L4 and L5 and a few other thing that I really don't know how to pronounce. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get one as long as the Dr seems to think you need it. My insurance did call me and ask if it was helping, of course I said yes- it truely does help. I am on a long cocktail of meds, and this helps with the spasms- great with the soma, i'm on those too. Have than done a test for nerve damage yet or do you have any symptoms?

I am thinking Medicare does pay for a TENS UNIT. The therapist should be able to answer this for you. I have a very small compact unit and it is great for muscle spasms. Susie

oh i am never without some type of pain. i have accepted that i will be living with this the rest of my life. i too have the lower back stabbing, throbbing and pain shooting down my leg and god help me if i am standing or sitting too long- i really pay for it dearly. the tens unit helps with muscle spams, helps to control them some. it won't help with the nerve pain. i have had a surgery to deaden the nerve, no success. though the lady next to me had said it worked for her for a year. i take neurontin for the leg pain. and really, it dosen't do anything either. but i have a huge tolerance to pain meds. basically, the tens helps relax the muscles... i love mine. i usually lie on my stomache- pop in a movie and have my tens rotated to different areas every 45 min. i love it. let me know when you get yours! -Shannon.

honestly it is the only position i am comfotable in.... i don't sleep like that, i have always slept in the fetal position for well, i guess since i was a fetal lol... :) i have talked to numerous people who say they can't lie that way either.
